>absolute goddess of silicon, Laurie Wired, just dropped the most groundbreaking low-level memory hack since the invention of DRAM itself
>she reverse-engineered undocumented channel scrambling bits on modern CPUs, built hedged reads that duplicate your hot data across independent memory channels with completely uncorrelated refresh timings, and is claiming up to 15x better p99.99 tail latency by dodging those ancient IBM-era tRFC refresh stalls that still fuck everyone in 2026
>full hour-long cinematic youtube video with train montages, animations, dramatic music, the works. open source C++ lib already on github.
>she's out here single-handedly saving high-frequency trading, databases, and every latency-sensitive workload from 60-year-old refresh cancer

It isn’t adobe’s fault that 4chan elected to not only allow the uploading of PDFs, despite not allowing their direct posting/dissemination via their server, but also scraped and processed the contents, blindly following the commands issued like the PDF is a terminal console. And it’s not their fault that it probably hasn’t been patched in any meaningful way. What about uploading an RTF, a file with no extension, etc? Not that Adobe doesn’t have its faults(BRING BACK MY FUCKING FLASH SUPPORT, IT IS MY CHOICE AS THE END USER TO ACCEPT THE ONUS OF SECURING MY OWN ASSETS OR LACK THEREOF.

I can tell by this one picture that she is a total poser/wannabe, having purchased far above her actual usable skill set. She has what appears to be a logic analyzer(bottom) and a scope(top) powered up yet not connected to anything, just using it as a prop because nerds love blinkenlights(which ostensibly she is doing wrong). Shes using metal racks, yet has no grounding straps running to her chassis’s, nor are the shelves themselves grounded. Not an ESD mat in sight. Bondi blue iMac and the SE(probably SE/30, which is unthinkable to have such a treasure and not even cherish it via use) don’t even have a functional way to use a keyboard and mouse with them. This is just a bunch of buzzwords and bullshittery that will be met by simps who eat it up, promoting it because they too are completely tech illiterate beyond installing a program on D:\ rather than C:\, IF that.

Here’s a picture of my crap brought from home at my technician workbench when I was working for a semiconductor automated wafer handling equipment manufacturer. The first pic was also my equipment but brought to a different job as somehow my stuff is far more advanced than most companies are willing to provide for component or even assembly level fault diagnosis. Even a circuit board fab working for Varian/Thales/Pratt Whitney/etc only provided me with a multimeter(at least it was true RMS).

Next “she’ll” install DOS 6.22 or Windows 98 on a modern computer(with minor UEFI workaround if “legacy BIOS” emulation isn’t available via your “bios configuration” and act like it’s some sort of big deal, failing to realize the whole fucking point of x86 architecture (Intel 4004 then 8088/8086) is that it is supposed to maintain 100% backwards compatibility with old code, as to ensure important programs(in manufacturing, etc) are able to continue functioning long after their original support has ended.
>>
>>532689961
No, owning a scope doesn’t make you a poser, but leaving it powered up in the background as a prop does. There are no leads coming off that, front or back, only a power cable. No signal being analyzed. The one I posted is mine, which has dual probe inputs on front and 40 channels on top.

Turn off enhanced memory(RAM) protection for far better latency. That’s the only major choke point I see nowadays, aside from improper speed matching of RAM. You can and should leave on MBR protection. And that’s just the BIOS/UEFI settings, also ensure you don’t have real-time anti-virus/anti-spyware running on your main PC. If possible, offload the firewall and real time monitoring to a dedicated server, or otherwise schedule(AND RUN) a scan for every week(min). Ofc, most of the people bitching about such things will do so with a straight face while their computer is connected via fucking WiFi, failing to see any issue whatsoever, all in the name of ease-of-use.

I was life support for Equipe/PRI/Brooks AxM 100-400, FPD “robots”, Prealigners, and controllers(which literally still use 386SX, on brand new builds. The SBC costs like $5K/ea b/c we are dumb as fuck). As well as fully integrated front end systems, lithography/ion implanters and such. Cheers mate, the whole work floor pauses for a moment to recognize the loss of like $10K minimum when the shattering of a wafer is heard, and these are blanks. 300mm wafers are god damn expensive. I even have a T-shirt that came with an order from University Wafers(IIRC). That’s what $100K in wafers gets you.

Learning, spreading that knowledge by interpreting it in ways that people can understand. Quality Control and Quality Assurance, as well as standards compliance are some of the most important aspects of manufacturing. And while I’m perceived as right wing, I’m actually a left wing (national) socialist. Truly, I’m for more libertarian views(old school, not this half-assed crap nowadays), but I don’t see such values working out in modern society, it isn’t a practical final solution. Not that political affiliation matters or is even considered in the real world. IRL, you accept that people have different views, and that it is overall better for everybody to overlook such things, for the greater good, outside of gentle ribbing as appropriate (commies are always fair game and they know it).

Cool man. I’m currently between positions, laid off but can’t look for work as I’m helping my uncle’s optical/head tracking company while 2/3 coworkers are down and out for health reasons. They can’t afford to pay me, but I’m sort of obligated to my uncle in certain ways, so he’s paying me out of his pocket to help the company he founded yet can’t convince himself to retire from. Boston area. I have a good understanding of how we progressed though the years, the processes going from like 1” wafers with one chip die each to 100, 150, 200, and the failed attempt to migrate the industry to 300. If I had an unlimited amount of money, the first thing I’d do is buy the old Kodak underground optical lab in NY that’s sitting empty. Then I’d start my own wafer handling company. The guys I was working for was trying to reverse engineer the gen 1 equipment, for the SBC they are using a god damn raspberry pi. No MBTF, not meant for class I/II industrial use, etc etc. Absolutely insane.

And those safety stops are there for a reason, yet we ship systems with bypasses in place for the customer to remove(at their request). S-293, 5V and 24/48V EMO/E-Stop.

That’s a good place to start learning the art, how solder flows, the concept of heating up the PCB or area to be soldered rather than the component itself, applying solder to the joint rather than directly to the soldering iron(unless you’re tinning the iron itself, or doing certain very fine SMT/SMD work).

The controller with a 386SX is still being made today (ESC-200, 201, 212, 2400/2800, etc), but the manufacturing/intellectual property was purchased from Brooks Automation. I’m not a big fan of most of Trump’s actions, but it does seem like semiconductor manufacturing and fabs are making a comeback, to some degree. It’s not even difficult to run them, most of the work is loading wafers in and packaging on outflow, but the biggest hurdle is that NOBODY can stand to wear a “bunny suit” (clean room suit) for their entire workday, it’s difficult to get in and out of it, let alone the clean room environment, checking of wrist/foot ESD strap, plus the security protocols for entering/exiting through a metal detector as to prevent IP escaping gets a little cumbersome.

My biggest thing is that I’m self educated, but I’ve built a portfolio that demonstrably proves I’ve earned my place.

>take the slowest request of remaining 99.99%
>increase it by 15x
>it's still 80x slower than median request time
it's so insignificant you can't even measure it without special equipment you would have to mortgage your house to afford.

the fabs coming up are having domestic staffing issues along with the fabs we already have, and we're not minting enough domestic stem talent because the trump administration is doing the same thing as previous admins and flooding our unis and workforce with foreigners. that aside, our domestic fabs are in better shape for the most part than international fabs outside of some of the euro and taiwan ones. there are some horror shows out there and aside from risk to operators, I have no clue how some of them maintain their yields with their contamination issues (including electrical and emf, not just in-/organic).

bunny suits imho arent bad, and facilities are nice and cool inside with that nice negative pressure breeze. fab security is still lower in general than datacenters (most dont require retinal and handprint entry on top of badge, scanner, wand, patdown). you just dont want to be working on a fab floor daily because of health risks from the chemicals and other things. the suit protects the wafers from you, it doesnt protect you from the fab. cancer rates from some fabs were/are high for a reason.

Not sure there are any actual real female hardware hackers, they are all troons running on male autism. Watching old Computer Chronicles eps from the 80s, I do notice some genuine female computer tech experts with clockable autism and I find that show a valid sample set as it's so fucking ancient that there's no risk of DEI virtue signalling etc. or many troons (however troons were there back then like VLSI giant Lynn Conway just rare).

Such a great show, necessary viewing if only for Gary Kildall as co host.

Yeah, I saw the Decon forms that AMAT/KLA sent with their equipment. And I’m generally familiar with the chemicals, RF, and ion implant processes involved. Definitely wash your hands and don’t wear your work shoes home. Leave your smock or lab coat in your locker, etc.

some women in tech are really good at debugging, and arguably better than men. in big firms you'll find a lot of them doing that work.
if we found the right ones they'd be an absolute asset but they are rare

She alludes to this kind of thing briefly, mentioning a rowhammer patent that was filed years before security researchers weaponized it. She did say there is no publically documented case of this technique anywhere but also pre-emptively apologized to any "companies" (aka 3letters and hft firms) that might already be using it kek.

Somebody point me in the direction of her claims presented in written form. I don’t “do” instructional videos or this format in general, I come from the last of the “RTFM” generation. That’s “read the fucking manual”, because that’s all there is and no other way to gain the information (back then).
