The way democracy works is that whoever controls the media tells everyone that "polls show 75% of people want X" and then X wins the election because everyone thinks it's what everyone else wants. Or something like that. Basically democracy is a horrible form of government where some random corporation or foreign government can seize control of your society as long as they trick the masses, which is easy if you have lots of money.
