British anons, what was Britain like in the 1970s?

Dunno, I was like 2 at most.

Darkies where somewhat of an exotic species at the time. Music was great after 1976 till about mid 80s when the druggies came back.

Grim. Factories burning coal, everywhere stank, hyperinflation, everyone on strike, terrible food, freezing weather, post-WWII bomb sites still dotted about, awful clothes, shitty phone service, only three TV channels, terrible housing stock, low wages, crappy public transport, orange street lighting, electricity blackouts, appalling coffee, public buildings covered in soot.
>>
>>533117248
Anyone really in any position to tell you would be in their 60s or 70s at this point.
Do you really think we have a bunch of 60 and 70 year olds running around here?

Yeah we had to walk because cars wouldn't start in the winter. Damp spark plugs. Car exhaust was rich and sickly full of lead. Black diesel smoke from buses and lorries. Trains so filthy a cloud of dust rose from the seats when you sat down. People didn't wash because too expensive to heat water. Draughty windows. Everywhere was damp because heating was a two-bar electri fire.

I don't know but from the way the boomers at work describe it it seems pretty fun. However I do recall there was controversy surrounding support for Israel when Menachem Begin was Israeli PM in the 80s
A quote he made at the time of the murder of the British soldiers was 'my heart has a holiday when one of them is killed' . Thatcher was the MP for a largely jewish area of London so such past history was buried.
The UK, France and Israel were allied during the Suez operation as there was at the time still wartime links with jews in the British establishment who had been allies with us fighting Germany so the situation was complex really.
The British state forgets about terrorists once they become 'respectable' as it currently does with the ex head of the IRA, Gerry Adams.

The way millions way younger than me went along with the Covid shite actually shocked me more than anything. This was nothing to do with wogs or jews either

We had so much more freedoms though.

We all used to carry sheath knives, even as 10 year olds.
I don't know if you had an adventure playground near you but they would be banned today, health and safety wouldn't allow it.

We could also talk about going to the Paki shop, laugh at poofs (doing the limp wrist thing) without people glaring at us.

We had Punks, Mods, Skinheads, Greasers, later on the New Romantics, Goths, etc.

Today the kids just wear hoodies and pretend they are from the Bronx - listening to shitting rap from their tinny iPhones.
>>
>>533124351
>shit
You are a wog aren't you?
>>
>>533117248
Everybody was skint, the pubs were always busy, there were zero wogs, pakis or jeets where I lived (didnt see my first wog in real life till the early 80's. The only wogs I had ever seen were on TV like the fuckers on ROOTS and Daley Thomson. We used to shout "Kuntakintay" at each other and make whiplash sounds and shout "Your name is Toby"). The neighbours used to be allowed to give you a beating if they caught you fucking about and you just kept your mouth shut because your parents would beat you too if they found out.
Big hairy fannys were in the porn mags, It gave me a love of big hairy fannys, I talked the wife out of shaving her fanny as soon as I married her. Three day working week and the Labour spastics going on strike at the drop of a hat.
Good times and bad times OP.

Things have dulled to fuck now. The young look up to nogs and there was some of that in my era. They are looking up to people who would be classified as mentally deficient by our standards and they don't seem to get it.

Both
There was a failed commie uprising, led by middle class lefties of course, in the 70s. The tory reaction was to go burger style free market without burger personal freedoms or the vast resources of the USA. Thatcher open the country up like a Thai prostitute to the highest bidders on the international money markets who at that time when Arab oil billionaires. The greedy tories were happy to take their money but the wogs extracted a price in the form of opening the country to islam.

Factory workers would deliberately sabotage cars to get back at management so British cars were unreliable. They rusted away within 18 months. I remember you could still crank start a car in winter.
>>
>>533124879
Thatcher was a cunt, she killed all the heavy industry but Labour made Thatcher inevitable.
Looking back now, I would rather have Thatcher than any of the creepy lying wankers we have now.
Thatcher was a cold, hard bastard but at least she was an honest bastard that everybody knew what she stood for.
I never knew I was skint until Thatcher came to power and made borrowing money easy as fuck.

>It was less gay and more straight.
Westerners like to bitch about how hard the 1970s were, with the stagflation and oil shocks and labor unrest.
How spoiled it turns out Westerners have been. The 1970s are utopia compared to the entire 21st century.
In the 80s, with the neoliberal revolution of Thatcher and Reagan, it became hip to bash on the quaint ways of the 1970s, like labor activism and not being pro-cosmopolitan and women not being half the workforce yet and no-fault divorce not being fully implemented yet or so new as to still be questioned as to its morality.
But the neoliberal turn was a major wrong turn. The materialism unleashed in the 80s was the West signing its own death warrant, with the UK and the US being the first signatories.
The crisis of the 1970s could have been handled differently. Okay, maybe Bill Gates wouldn't have become so rich if neoliberal ideology had not been enacted in policies. And the digital revolution would have occurred more slowly. And overpriced pensions and benefits for the public would have been cut more slowly, costing governments more taxes overall.
But the bailouts of the banks in 2008 and 2020 cost $20 trillion for the US alone. So what money did we save by going full-bore neoliberal?
It was just a "get richer quick" scheme for elites tired of social democracy in Europe and of the New Deal in America. They wanted to reverse the economic gains of workers and ordinary people, and do so as fast as possible, and they succeeded. The cost was Western values and morals, decent societies, multiculturalism for cheap labor, moral hazard from banks whose executives know they'll be bailed out of any trouble, etc.
The other road would have cost more upfront, but saved more long term. That wasn't an option for those seeking instant gratification.

Britain died in the 70s. What we live in now is like a bombed out building turned into a shop front where you sell the idea of the old house without any of the old bricks

The 70s basically the last era of a Britain which had always existed but after the war was basically finished and dying and is now long dead. It was the last of industrial Britain where the working class had both a stake and a say in how the country was run. Christianity would was still on its last legs but punk came in to thoroughly put two fingers up to the past and say no more of that. In a way it is fascinitating because the remains of the old times exist but Britain really was totally fucked by that point, it looked exactly like a country which had been blown to bits by war an never recovered

https://youtu.be/y6gslO3Xl8s?si=M_IUqFAC6E_MLDTo

I'm a zoomer so I might be talking out my arse but the 70s seems to me the bridge between the old britain and the modern britain. It was fucked beyond repair but it at least had some vestige of the real Britain

The late 90s was the true downfall.

You are exactly right. No one "won" apart from...
>>
>>533132348
If your only complaint about Britain is demographic change then yeah but what would lead to the mindset that would allow for that demographic shift to happen begun in the 70s and was implemented in the 80s I.e globalisation, free market, a preference for business solutions over government ones and importantly the idea the government had nothing to do with british culture and that markets knew better.
All that would make mass migration inevitable. Thatcher makes Blair inevitable.

But also from a culture standpoint there is a mass shift towards individualism, consumerism, decline in religion, overspending on American goods etc. Even if there were no nogs or joe daki's the country would still be fucked because of those things

>>
>>533133294
Nah.
Major gave rise to Blair and let's face it Blair was unlike anyone we had seen before, he was a real showman.

Other problems happened as a result in the late 90s. We had shitloads of Eastern Euros imported, which harmed the economy.

For example. Working Saturdays was often time and a half - Sundays double time - Bank holidays double time and a day off in lieu.
The unions spent years working for this bust the Euros didn't need it, they were earning multiples of what they would earn in their own countries, with much better standards, so all the goodies went away. Construction suffered as they would heavily undercut native workers, who had mortgages and families . . .most of the Euros at that time, lived 10 to a house and sent most of their money home.

There was a lot more too but it's 4chan and sometimes political debate is often wasted.

Thatcher disowned British children by introducing the csa, which meant stopping population growth of the families that had build and maintained the country through every government.
After Major stabbed her in the back to give his Masonic friend Soros £6b on 'black' wednesday 1992, the country was sold out entirely by the Blair Brown act that filled those spaces created by Thatcher with the freeloaders of the third world.

>reliving the 1970s again right now.

Up to a point, yes. High inflation, high taxes right now, and strikes. The 70s saw 26% inflation and sympathy strikes. The coal miners went on strike so the train drivers went on strike as well because coal was moved by train. The postmen went on strike because trains moved the mail too. The binmen went on strike because why not. Rubbish was piled 10ft high with rats everywhere. Then for some reason funeral directors went on strike. We couldn't bury the dead.
That was the last straw for bongs and we voted in Thatcher who smashed the whole system to pieces. Banned strikes, privatised everything, abolished the 83% income tax rate (yes, mutts, 83%).
The only nogs were colonials from the Carribbean so they weren't as bad as the dumb savages from Africa we have now. The pakis were from colonial India, not the child rapists from Afghanistan we have to put up with today.
People had two parents and ate home cooked meals and kids TV was magical. It wasn't all bad in the 70s. But I wouldn't want to go back there.

Hadn't heard about the reverse polarity. Very devious. They used to shove a crushed coke can the the door panel so the car would rattle as soon as it was off the forecourt. The door seals were fitted so badly rain would enter the car. I remember seeing weeds growing out of a sodden carpet in a Maxi. If you owned a cortina your key would open other cortinas.

Judging from all the 1970s UK sex comedies I've watched recently, the majority of women in the 70s didn't have fake tits, fake teeth, fake tans, tattoos, lip fillers and other facial bogging like most of them do now so they were much more attractive
On the downside, they all had massive hairy bushes, probably hairy arseholes too and quite a lot of them smoked cigarettes so they smelled bad
The appearance of non-whites in these films was also like 1% or less, which is an obvious massive improvement over today

everyone smoked, all the buildings were grimy, people smelled damp, mold was living in every pub, if someone smiled it looked like smashed piano keys, decay was everywhere - the government, business, culture, all of it PUNK woke everybody up then Thatcher took away the milk

Thatcher was the original globalist, she sold off all our British industries to foreigners to make a quick quid in her pocket 45 years ago, look at the state of our country now, the only """industry""" is the financial banking sector in cuck-central Londonistan

I grew up in a "New Town" housing estate. Whole new towns that were started after the war for those bombed out in London.

They got a bad rap over the years but the people living there fucking loved them. New cozy house, well heated, no damp, lots of green space.

Being 1970s british must have been sweet, yes it had a shit economy but you just had to grind and listen to punk music, wage slave to afford some drugs so you can use those to have sex, drive a vintage British car and walk on the beaches. If you play your cards right your reward is the 1980s, ruling the world, your culture rules, you rule the waves, take down Falklands and be James Bond on your way to your Spanish vacation before it was played out and maybe Australia. Then you get kids and a finance job and buy land outside of London. Genius. Sorry millennials lmao try again next life I got my estate where no Muzzies live.
