Roughly 23% of adults in the U.S. have a mental illness annually (~1 in 5).

Roughly 48 million people affected with depression or around 5% of the population.

Roughly 19% receive a lifetime diagnosis of anxiety; ~12% report current symptoms.

Depression accounts for ~8.6% of all years lived with disability in the Americas.

Majority of suicide cases involve diagnosable mental disorders.

Roughly 50% of people with diagnosed mental illness do not receive care.

All of this may be heavily underreported.

That's because by DSM-5 criteria literally every human being who is alive / has ever lived is "mentally ill" to some extent. Its become a meaningless buzzword and, as a result, shrinks aren't real doctors.
