The Oxford/Serial School: This style (preferred by The Chicago Manual of Style and Grammarly) argues that the "and" is a conjunction, not a punctuation mark. They believe a comma is still needed to separate the last two items to ensure clarity and equal emphasis.

Example: "Apples, peaches, and bananas."

The AP/Journalism School: This style (preferred by the AP Stylebook) argues that the "and" is sufficient to separate the items. They omit the comma unless it is absolutely necessary to avoid confusion.

Example: "Apples, peaches and bananas."

However, a) I am not that anon and b) I personally would have written it out as "the wounded, the dying, and the dead" because it flows better. "The wounded, dying, and dead" also works, but prose often demands you add a little bit of repetition ("the" being arguably unnecessary in this enumeration) for effect.
We're straying from the realm of grammar towards the realm of writing, though.

Interesting theory, but it's utterly unnecessary for anyone who is sufficiently literate, and omitting the comma after the second to final item supports communication flow. It's pushed in order to lower the bar for what's considered literate and has been hastily adopted by the swarming mass of westerners who can read and write but have no communication skills whatsoever.

It isn't correct, it's bad English. Flour and eggs can denote flour and eggs as individual items or denote flour and eggs like they are mixed together or part of one unit of something. It's not about whether it improves clarity in this particular example, it's a matter of standardized best practices that catches fringe cases.
Flour and eggs might not be a related term today, but imagine someone creates a tabletop card game tomorrow called 'flour and eggs'. Or someone invents a new dish called 'flour and eggs', similar to bubble and squeak. Oxford comma still clarifies that you're listing individual ingredients. For that reason it is the most correct.

The flour & eggs do not come together as a pair/unit. Therefore they are listed discreetly from each other.

P.S. AP style English common in British journalism justifies itself by stating that the comma is unnecessary because:
>"and already acts a separator"
This is, however, antithetical to the very concept of the word "and", which serves to pair two or more subjects together into a compound subject. The real reason for this practice is to save money in printing, where they would be using the word "and" anyway.

English does not and has never had a central authority like other languages, even within Britain or even within England. So really there is no official "English" for Americans to bastardize, only different style guides promulgated across the Anglo-Saxon world which are used by different professional organizations for different purposes.

B is promoted by most academic institutions (APA, MLA, CMOS), it's also a near-universal standard in acting/scriptwriting just because it tracks spoken language better.
C is promoted by journalistic institutions (AP, NYT) because it saves page space and ~95% of the time the ambiguity it introduces is irrelevant anyways
(for example "I want to thank my parents, my dog and my cat", read literally it could be interpreted as my parents are my dog and my cat, but that's obviously not true, so people know what was meant anyways)

Most style guides these days specify that it's OK to use it or not use it if using it/not using it risks introducing undesired ambiguity into your sentence.

Ultimately Angloids do our language like we do our law.

No actually. C tracks spoken language better. B is to emphasize how much of a cunt one might be.
>ambiguity
Let's take the following sentence:

This morning we'll be learning math, grammar and history, and then we'll be head outside for recess.
Imagine sticking a fag comma in that type of sentence. At that point you'd need to take a comfortable spoken sentence and split it up into two for it not to look retarded in written form with multiple. There is literally never a need for a comma when "and" is being used before the last member of a list. It only serves to introduce ambiguity in more complex sentences.

Grammatically, B is considered the most precise, as it correctly uses the Oxford comma (or serial comma) before the final item in the list. This is the standard for most academic and formal style guides (such as the Chicago Manual of Style) because it eliminates potential ambiguity.

C is also widely accepted, particularly in journalistic styles (like the AP Stylebook), which generally omit the final comma unless it is necessary for clarity.

In the context of a multiple-choice test, B is almost certainly the intended "correct" answer because it follows the formal rule of separating all items in a series. Options A, D, and E are incorrect because they use commas in places that disrupt the flow of the sentence or misplace them entirely.
