each new datacenter makes your life worse, not better. They aren't building new powerplants, they aren't producing more clean water, they are just taking everything from you until you are just a either a food delivery pajeet or a server watcher "agent" whose job is to get sued and replaced when the hardware malfunction.
Here's my issue... I've worked in a datacenter before. Most people have never set foot in one. And I've had another anon confirm my thoughts on this... We already had a ton of datacenters and they are NOT AT CAPACITY. Many have tons of older equipment that's far less powerful than what you could have in the rack w\ current levels of available tech. The scale of this datacenter gold rush is simply retarded. There's a couple of thoughts on this. One being that many of these will simply fail, or never actually come to fruition. Right now in the short term, they are stimulating the economy by pumping billions of dollars into this datacenter project around the country. It's absolutely unfathomable what you could do w\ that amount of "compute". You certainly don't need 100 complexes of datacenters spanning miles upon miles... You could fill up data centers with existing tech, and away you go. Also things like storage are growing exponentially. They've got 40TB disks... They can fill a 3u rackspace w\ top of the line storage and have more power than racks upon racks of more legacy equipment. It's a gold rush, but honestly, i dont think there's that much gold to find. You're going to have a bunch of people competing for this AI space and ultimately you'll probalby see the AWS / microsoft type outfits acquire any smaller successful operations. But the sheer scale of the project is retarded.

Data centers are bad investments for small towns and rural communities. They add no real jobs to the community, they soak up water, they spike everyone's electricity bills, and inject marginal amounts of money back into the local economy. They likely do not even pay substantial property taxes because local governments usually give them generous tax breaks as an incentive to build the data center there in exchange for some kind of kickback. It's certainly not because of any long-term benefit to the community.
