No impact such a practice could have on crime would be worth normalizing it and opening the door to such a horrific act to be inflicted upon an innnocent, be it by wrongful conviction in an otherwise just system or the targeting of individuals in a corrupt system using the law as a weapon to punish, intimidate, and control.
