https://futurism.com/future-society/trump-moves-to-deeply-censor-the-entire-internetTrump Moves to Deeply Censor the Entire Internet"Taken together, these bills would fundamentally change the internet as we know it."The White House and Congress are working on a deal to clamp down on what US citizens are allowed to say online. According to new reporting by Axios, the Trump administration is negotiating with key senators in an effort to shoehorn a massive legislation package which would limit states’ abilities to regulate AI in exchange for placing broad federal limits on digital speech.Plenty of ink has been spilled about the Trump administration’s push to revoke AI regulation from individual states. Though the White House and its allies frame this as a matter of “safety” and “national security,” the timing is telling, coming as progressive state governments move to restrict the building of AI data centers and hold tech companies liable for harms their AI systems cause. What makes this deal particularly insidious is the trade-off at its core. Per Axios, congressional lawmakers lead by Republican Marsha Blackburn are essentially offering to surrender their ability to regulate AI in exchange for three federal censorship bills: the Kids Online Safety Act, the NO FAKES Act, and a federal age verification mandate.
While the language around these three measures suggests common-sense cyber regulation, activists say they really amount to a massive censorship regime that is fundamentally anti-democratic.In a blistering statement, the first amendment group Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) warns that “taken together, these bills would fundamentally change the internet as we know it.” That’s especially striking because FIRE is funded by conservative private interests like billionaire Charles Koch, meaning its opposition highlights the degree to which Trump is butting heads against fellow members of the US ruling class. The Kids Online Safety Act (KORA) for example, would force social media giants to restrict lawful speech based on Federal Trade Commission regulations. FIRE complains that this would give the federal government too much power to hold platforms like Meta accountable for their harms — which, many would argue, is long overdue. But given that just a few corporations own the vast majority of web infrastructure and social media, KORA would give the Trump-controlled FTC major power to bend the internet to its will.To put this power into perspective, just regulating Meta’s Instagram would impact about 71 percent of US citizens who say they regularly use the app. It’s a powerful weapon, in other words — and like any weapon, it matters a great deal who wields it. Should the White House and Congress push KORA through, it’s likely it would functionally end the possibility of surfing the internet anonymously, while supercharging Trump’s efforts to criminalize left wing opposition groups in the US.

>>536875354This entire push for censorship and "age verification" is actually a jewish dragnet to stifle dissent against Israel and christkike golems.
>>536874785Thank God i am fed up with the antisemitism
De facto declaring "any user of any website could potentially be a minor so you have to either dramatically restrict speech or enforce onerous, intrusive ID requirements" seems pretty obviously a) unconstitutional and b) about stifling free expression rather than "protecting kids"
>>536874785The restrictions on speech on the internet are planned to be implemented in real life eventually.
>>536875554It certainly is timed to be something pushed for at the same period of time as when public discourse is shifting against Israel. If they implement it quick enough, I would even see it as a means to interfere with US elections by more stringently controlling what information people are exposed to, but at this point I would be surprised if they moved quickly enough on that for the midterms.

>>536876548I unironically do that sometimes too, lol. I finally found some use for AI, since it helps me spice up my degenerate prose. I’m sure they’ll take that away from me too, eventually.
>>536875354True. Biden didn’t give them their war with Iran, so they brought back Zion Don who happily prostrated himself before them
>>536874785deeply unconstitutional
>>536876899In spirit, yes. In practice its unfortunately legal: the first ammedment says that the government can't restrict free speech, but that applies to ONLY the government. I can restrict your free speech anytime I want (within my actual ability to do so) and its perfectly legal. So can companies. As long as the actual censorship is being done by a private organization and not the US government itself, the first ammendment doesn't do shit to help us. So if Elon Musk decides that anyone that says something mean about him gets autobanned from twitter, thats legal. He can do that. He owns twitter he can do whatever he wants with it. First Ammendment rights don't apply. Trump is just trying to abuse this loophole himself, which is easily done because we've conveniently allowed the internet to be controlled by a handful of monopolies.

Fuck yeah, ban al center-left parties and arrest all leftist billionaires on treason charges, the more the merrier.
governments do not give a shit about your childrenage verification laws are about control of information and the chilling effect. because they know most people are going to censor themselves if they have to sign in to a website under their real name and credit card. not just self censorship, but also they will be less willing to view controversial material such as perhaps a study that shows a vaccine has side effects or an article about greatest allys genocide in gaza.and that's just a start. a foot in the door. turning up the heat a little on the froggie in the pot. next when ai takes everyones jobs and you're all on ubi via cbdc that's when the social credit system comes in, they'll probably call them patriot points or something ironic.

>>536875348It's a deal with the tech bros. We are irrelevant
>>536874980And who is the leader of the alt right?
>>536878628Even if wanted to oppose this, how would we even do so? The tech companies hold all of the cards, the government would have to be the one to pressure them to not censor the internet. As long as the tech companies are doing censorship that the government approves of, all the government has to do is *nothing* and they get what they want regardless of what laws are on the books. At that point, we have only two theoretical things we can do that would affect the outcome: a replacement of the government with a new political movement that aligns with our interests, or a mass-rejection of the tech platforms involved such that they go out of business and are replaced by preferable alternatives.I don't see either of those as a realistic possibility, do you?
