I thought OFCOM had pulled the plug
I woke up from a dream today. It concerned revellers in a pub listening to the pub landlord making an emotional speech about the pub closing (an increasingly common occurrence in England) and remarking about how our society is rapidly changing for the worst due to mass immigration. The analogy he used in his speech was that "we are the Statue of Liberty when it no longer fits anywhere; not here, not even in its home country".It's a weird analogy but I think the point got across. I don't often remember my dreams so I felt like sharing it.
>>544078705My cousin works for OFCOM. She actually mentioned the whole 4chan shit to me. She said that the people who work at OFCOM all know it is shit and makes no fucking sense. The politicians know it makes no fucking sense. The government is just people doing a day job for a salary and pushing buttons and doing as they are told to keep their salary. The most important voting demographic by far are old people - oldies vote in very high numbers. Old women are highly supportive and love the idea of an online porn block and change their vote to support it. THINK OF THE CHILDREN. So our government passes a law to get those old and middle aged women voters on side. The government knows that it cannot fine 4chan an American company. But they cannot back down from the law. Blocking it via ISPs is difficult and legally expensive and time consuming. So they just send 4chan fine bills forever. Everyone at OFCOM knows how retarded it is but they just carry on because they just do a job for money like politicians.

>>544078844But their online digital ID - to protect the kiddies - will end all anonymous discussion in the UK.4chan and other chans will be the only place where free discussion will be possible.
>>544079038The purpose of a system is what it does.
>>544078844This is what I assumed it would be like. We all have to half heartedly enforce retarded rules we know are pointless at our jobs and presumably working for ofcom is no different

>>544079107A lot of laws are like this. Thailand has technically made recreational cannabis illegal again but if I step outside now I will see a weed shop with customers. The law is not enforced. They just want to have a law in place so they can quickly enforce it if shit his the fan with this drug or something.
>>544079663Not really lad. Ended slavery before anyone else. Developed more technology than anyone else. Famines that occurred in India were natural disasters that occurred before the Raj due to the El Niño monsoon reason. The British just had a weird lasseiz-faire (Victorian libertarianism) approach and did fuck all.
Hello, what's been happening?

Large organisations with a democratic aspect make the most insane and irrational decisions because the decisions are not made by one person thinking about the overall outcome. The decisions are more like the vector some of everyone’s individual decision making, usually for their own self interest. The trans thing is an interesting one. Few people are truly retarded to think that transwomen in a womens prison is a good idea if they actually thought about. Decisions like that get made because everyone is just taking the rational steps to advance or preserve their career or be popular or get laid or have a quiet life.
>>544080031Hey Bruce - not much. France is on fire though.
>>544080143What's causing this, are there protests there about something?
>>544080143I get the impression that some of these students do not really care about improving school conditions. They just want time off school and burn shit. How correct is that?
Fucking sick to death with getting paki spam calls
>>544080213Why are you in Thailand? Are you there for sex crimes or do you live there?

>>544080318France also has a history or mass protests connected to education and unions though. The most famous was the May 1968 student protests which were absolutely mental and sort of the high water mark of the 1960s counterculture in the west. Students at unis were not allowed to sleep together in mixed sex dorms and French unis were/are very hierarchical. Students staged a protest and it escalated into riots and unions got involved and it all went mad and the economy of France literally shut down and the president had to flee because it looked like there was almost going to be an actually revolution. Eventually the unions backed down though. Huge moment in French modern history. I get the impression there is still this sense that if enough people get on the streets then things can snowball and suddenly the world can be changed just as with 1789.
>>544078844>Blocking it via ISPs is difficult and legally expensive and time consuming. How so?They just order the ISPs to block the IPs and redirect the DNS record to a spooky site saying that it has been blocked by the UK government (for your safety of course) It's not like when they seize an IP from criminals, that takes a lot of paper work By the way, which porn sites aren't complying and so don't need a VPN to access them?
>>544080459>They just order the ISPs to block the IPs and redirect the DNS record to a spooky site saying that it has been blocked by the UK government (for your safety of course)Because the ISPs can take the government to the UK Supreme Court and even further to the European Court of Human Rights and it just becomes a whole exhausting and time consuming thing.Secondly, the gov wants to keep the middle and old woman voters (who hate porn and like rules) on side without totally enraging radicalised young men (who love porn and dislike being bossed around). This >lets have a law but not really bother enforcing it properly Is basically the electoral strategy. Identical to Thailand with cannabis really.
>>544080031>this man stole my bike!>okay, but we have to arrest you for reporting it. Where are you right now?
>>544080459Its costly for small ISPs to maintain this shit, and some say they dont have the capability anyway. Plus it doesnt work, CF dns over tls and vpn will defeat 99% of blocks and even DPI can be bypassed.
