"Seasonal anime" wasn't a thing; there was a known stock of shows of many genres and varying quality. Any show you hadn't heard of or seen was 'new'. Things couldn't be gotten ahold of or viewed easily which made it mysterious and you treasured the good shit when u found it.Now it's just shit to be consumed. Good shoes exist but it's just another medium now. When American shows want to they can successfully co-opt it now and people see it as no different when it was the storytelling style and subject matter that differentiated anime from western animation. And they draw more and better giant anime tiddies in japan.
