Unironically this is the exact kind of thing they need to do to grow viewership. They build to this angle throughout the night to give people a reason to keep watching. They had a satisfying pay off for those who stuck around to watch and left with that need to tune in next week to see the follow up. If they can keep doing that it will build hype back up. Also the rest of the show was pretty good as well.
