The least viewed part of the show was the Copeland match. which only drew 628K viewers. for me it highlights the problem with AEW. The match works in a vacuum, It works if people are not asked to watch a weekly show. I have seen at least four Brody King matches on AEW, but nothing has ever come from them. Each time I thought that this would be a match that would give King some momentum, but nothing happened. Also, most of those matches have come from nowhere. It's not like King was doing anything beforehand to justify even getting the matches. This is something about AEW that needs to change. It doesn't matter how good the matches are, if no effort is made to get people to care about the wrestlers.

>Also, most of those matches have come from nowhere. It's not like King was doing anything beforehand to justify even getting the matches.
That wasn't the case here at all. Edge has been in a feud with House of Black for at least a month or so. I point out the Jay White plummet because that's where it starts and it doesn't pick back up until the overrun/aka when people are tuning into what's on after. It's only down about 70k from the average for the night which in itself isn't really that bad. But the people they had hooked in with the Swerve and Christian segment for that bump there they couldn't keep with what they put on after

It doesn’t help that the biggest personal conflict in the angle is The New Elite taking over Tony’s show so it’s essentially TNE vs Tony. Tony cant wrestle and would snap in half if he did, so it diverges into another form of Kenny vs Bucks or Hangman vs Bucks, where does the heat come from because those stories have been done to death over the last few years. It’s just a merry-go-round of the same stuff. Austin vs Vince worked because vince was atleast roided enough to be believable as a threat, and Austin got to beat the crap out of Vince regularly. But Tony’s the face in this situation so how does it work? Swerve, as world champion, is playing secondary to the Elite story. Sure, Swerve is the world champion, but his booking doesn’t make him feel like “the guy”. It’s reminiscent of Jericho is 2002, prior to WM 18. Who could have ever guessed that booking the elite, who have a history of being ratings poison despite what their fans believe, would result in the ratings being poisoned and souring many fans. Booking your world champion to be second fiddle to the EVPs that consistently turn away viewers of all types is an amazing decision.
>>
>>14585800
>It doesn’t help that the biggest personal conflict in the angle is The New Elite taking over Tony’s show
I completely agree with this. I don't mind the whole new shtick with the Bucks and Okada. Doing what they have with Jack Perry was the best move they could've. But the angle as a whole hasn't played out well or in any kind of entertaining way at all

shouldn't they be faces if the idea is they're trying to protect AEW from punk-like ex WWE guys
>>
>>14586100
Definitely not. That's how you end up with an AEW Cody situation. How can guys who are the EVPs be underdogs or viewed as sympathetic or be any sort of effective babyfaces? The math just doesn't math when they're in charge of the company. It's exactly why people never bought into Cody while he was there and eventually tuned against him

OC's gimmick has a shelf life and his shit got stale years ago, he is incapable of changing things up which makes me think that he got lucky with his shtick in the indies because doesn't know how to reinvent himself to keep people's attention. It's like Tony Khan liked his gimmick at first but after it got stale he was too buddy with him to kick him off the shows.
All friends wrestling.
>>
>>14586241
That's okay though. Okada is a big deal. If you're building someone up like they did with Eddie then that's the perfect person and time to transfer that heat over to. If was a great first big win for Okada as a full time roster member. Better than him just having some nothing match with Orange Cassidy or some shit. Plus it is still part of the feud they're doing which I guess is another part of it they're doing right
>>

>>

>But orchestrating Jungle Boy's meltdown so he could get fired?
what meltdown though? punk came steaming around the corner after looking for a fight over it. even if jack perry didn't say anything into the camera and just did the spot I don't think that would've stopped punk. he sought him out already visibly aggressive. perry never fought back so it's not like that mattered either
he had his plan and he went for it. andrade tried the same shit. it's not unprecedented. the fact that survivor series in chicago was exactly 90 days later on top of it?

Based and agreed. His matches are always a bright spot on the show and he's been doing really enjoyable work his entire run there so far. He comes across like the top babyface of the company even if he's not put in that position

That's crazy because I was thinking this exact thing. I get he's got the House of Black feud going and will probably be facing Malakai at the ppv though. If he actual does a singles match. AEW does their best numbers when the show opens with an in-ring live promo. Their worst numbers are behind the scenes interview, video package, backstage skit or match to open the show.

BBT is a show built on characters that large swaths of the audience can relate to or aspire to be. When you open the show with Samoa Joe stomping to the ring, while the crowd goes wild chanting his name - then he's on the microphone talking about how he's going to kick everyone's ass, that's relatable and that keeps people tuned in.....at least until they realize/remember they're watching a wrestling show.

He didn't have a no compete and could have just quit whenever he wanted to. Tony talked him into trying the Collision thing, but then it didn't work out.
>>
>>14587044
This is true, Tony Khan chose high school bullshit over drawing money after Brawl Out, and he doubled down on it after Brawl In. You can hear it in the way Kenny Omega speaks about those past incidents, he knows the wrong choices were made on the management side, and the result is a wrestling side that continues to be uninteresting and uninspired.

Adding more marquee wrestlers to AEW is like adding Shrimp Scampi and Lobster Ravioli to the menu at a dumpy, failing restaurant on the bad side of town. Failing restaurants don't merely need to add more menu items, and AEW doesn't simply need more wrestlers -- it needs to use the wrestlers it already has more effectively and build towards the future.

Time will tell what happens with Swerve but I don't have a great feeling about it. Dancing doesn't sell tickets and nobody needs a 7th "Whose house?" shirt. The man needs to come up with new material ASAP.
