Japanese wrestling (or puroresu) is much, much better than american low brow wrestling
>>

>in japan... they're smarks!
>in america... they're based!

I always wondered why they included Canada in this image. Canada has been 100% WWE territory since 1985.
Weirdly enough though, AEW does okay in the ratings in Canada and Dynamite beat the fucking Smackdown episode this year that had the Rock on it
>>
My favorite part about that image is when it started really circulating one of the most popular japanese wrestlers was a comedian who had a gimmick of being a gay leather fetishist.
>>
>>16272135
Did the person that made this image ever actually watch Lucha Libre? The shit those carnies get up to is ten times trashier than anything in the US, lmao
>>
Fake fighting is a joke. One of the few things I agree with Americans on
>>
>>16272135
I don't even know who the Canadian guy is tbqhwy
>>
>>16272262
How the fuck do you not know Stu Hart
>>
>>16272241
based Razor Ramon HG
>>
>>16272241
>one of the most popular japanese wrestlers
HG isn't popular at all, he's even the Jannetty to his owarai konbi (comedian duo) partner RG who almost appears daily on tv unlike HG who's never seen anywhere. He even dropped the Hard Gay gimmick a few years ago because it drew negatively and drew bad heat in modern Japan. Him becoming a meme with a few western smarks doesn't make him popular.
>>
>>16272313
>because it drew negatively and drew bad heat in modern Japan
Japan is becoming pozz'd?
>>
>>16272313
Huh, so the Hard Gay on those react panels on Japanese tv shows isn't the wrestler one but his comedy partner? NTA btw
>>
>>16272273
Oh, never really seen what he looks like young. Just the decrepit version from Wrestling With Shadows.
>>
>>16272313
HG isn't popular anymore, this image was circulating in 2006. He was really popular in 06, before the marks figured out it was a gimmick.
>>
>>16272318
If it says Hard Gay it's the same guy, if it says Real Gay that's his tag partner.
>>16272315
Yes, though it started drawing heat in 08 or 09, whenever they found out he wasn't actually gay.
>>
>>16272328
As someone who didn't keep up with any sort of wrestling as a teen in the late 2000s/2010s but spent way too much time on /v/, I was actually pretty shocked to learn that Bob Sapp and Razor Ramon HG aren't that well known among wrestling fans. MMA fans know Sapp though
>>
>>16272341
If it's not hard gay, it's real gay
Point taken
>>
>>16272341
>>16272363
They changed their names a few years ago to Real Guy and Hard Guy because people started complaining about it.
>>
>>16272341
>Yes, though it started drawing heat in 08 or 09, whenever they found out he wasn't actually gay.
That wasn't when the heat started nor was the reason he changed his name, He changed it like 2 years ago or so and said that his name isn't in compliance with modern sentiment or something.
>>
>>16272361
Sapp is insanely based, this board would love him if they knew more about him.
I heard he had the IWGP belt but it was during Inoki's mma obsession that almost tanked the company.
>>

>In Canada... it's a tradition
>In Mexico... it's a religion
>In Japan... it's a sport
>In America... it's a joke
In Britain?
>>
>>16272423
it needs a loicense
>>
>>16272135
Two wasn't enough.
>>
>>16272426
lol
>>
>>16272423
it's a cover for nonces
>>
>>16272398
It's not the reason he changed his name, and you're right that the time is off, but you're wrong in that he absolutely started working less as Hard Gay and more as Sumitani because people were complaining as far back as 2006.

America understands that wrestling is a carny business, and frankly, letting self-marks run the business is a mistake.
>>
>>16272417
Eh I wouldn't say Sapp was based. He was dimes, but he wasted his career and KWABed himself after he beat his Japanese wife literally black and blue
>>
>>16272313
>a few western smarks
nah that shit was over with non-wrestling fans too, was everywhere on /b/ back on the day
>>
>>16272135
do smarks really believe wrestling around the world isn't seen as just entertainment?
>>
>>16272474
>he beat his Japanese wife literally black and blue
Why am I not surprised
He's the closest thing to a professional jobber I've seen in MMA in his later career. As in, he'll literally show up and a dive on the first solid shot he takes and instantly tap to strikes. Money and miles I guess.
>>
>>16272474
>Never filed any charges
I don't know man, I could totally see Sapp doing that but with no charges whatsoever it's hard to believe.
>>
In America, it's where all those other people go to get paid
>>
>>16272464
Inoki is the biggest self-mark in wrestling history

unironically
it's not even close
>>
>>16272521
No charges, but he seems to have disappeared from public after it came out so it must have been taken seriously on an interpersonal level. The optics of being a foreigner allegedly beating a Japanese woman must be really bad in Japan, because the combat sports world will usually turn a blind eye even if you're actually charged with domestic violence
