Much of what we saw in terms of action was inspired by him (Tim Burton films, Matrix, etc.) and much of the characterization in terms of character obtaining abilities then showcasing them for the audience was from him. He was the bridge from Hitchcock style directing to modern action and horror directing. His catalogue is hit and miss due to being at the whim of Hollywood directors. Movies, games and anime all bear his influence.
