Why there's no cult stable in Japanese wrestling? It would be dimes.

House of Torture kinda is
>>
like they didn't let Gay Wyfatt do that shit for like half a decade
>>
What do you mean? WWE toured their recently.
>>
>>19431438
because they've had real life problems with cults doing things like killing politicians and bombing subways, think of it like doing a 9/11 angle in an american promotion
>>
>>19431438
Japanese wrestling presents itself as a legitimate sport outside of companies like DDT. A cult stable would be a bit too over-the-top.

Japan is fucking hardcore if you don't think they're all anime and videogame consumers. Wasn't even a hundred years ago when they were the nastiest little fuckers the west had ever fought, no lie.
>>
>>19431599
If you spent longer than a hour watching anything other than NJPW you'd see this was a lie.

if I were in AEW, I would start a Godfrey Ho ninja stable

WWE had Muhammed Hassan and it got really over but undershitter didn't like it so he begged Vince to let him bury it

Okay, give me examples.

I was thinking of the Mahummad Hassan example actually. Sorry to ignore the bait but for those who don't know, they debuted a character who was a Muslim guy who would cut promos about being treated badly by ignorant Americans even though he was 'just as American' as them. This was compelling stuff and he got serious heat.
Though the second they barely even hinted at someting resembling actual taliban style terrorists they got 'what the fuck' heat from the public and were forced to entirely scrap it and Hassan was just gone.

It's definitely not the same

He doesn't have anything because he's just doing that thing where he makes a dumb assertion and calls you a liar so he doesn't have to justify it.
>>
>>19431637
It's the best comparison I could think of to illustrate the point but yes I think a 9/11 angle would have been a bit more controversial to say the least.

there is a whole promotion called marigold

I don't know if legit sport is right but the whole culture towards it treats it a lot more like a sport than America ever did. Like there's wrestling awards right alongside baseball and sumo in their big magazines.
It's more of a cultural attitude than Japan's wrestling being any more legitimate though.

they also filmed that angle with the taliban cave video guys beating the shit out of taker and choking him with wire whilst hassan prayed to god for smackdown, and when it went to air a few days later there'd been a big attack in the UK in between and it looked pretty bad lol

Asuka is a cult leader kinda.
She gaslit and abused & mindbroke Kairi

Yeah, after thinking about what I wrote I think I wasn't entirely clear and I apologize for reacting like I did (I only watch puroresu and I watch more than just NJPW). I'm not saying Japanese pro-wrestling is a SERIOUS sport. But it's treated like more of a sport than what we see in the WWE. Sure, it's a sport where people might throw invisible shurikans or fights mascots or have dance offs in the middle of a match or build entire gimmicks around avoiding wrestling. But I guess what I meant to get at is the narrative-driven stuff is a lot lighter - you don't have huge promo segments, backstage stuff is skippable and not part of shows, and a cult angle seems like it would lean into the sports entertainment side of things more than is normal. And "silly" stuff is usually kept to the midcards. This person's comment put it better than I did >>19431738

Thinking about it more (now that I've had a bit of coffee to wake up), I can see it working if done properly. It's more that it's just outside the norms and might be considered a bit "edgy" for what Japanese audiences are used to.
