Do the Yakuza control Japanese wrestling?
>>
>>19431447
Pretty much. Some marks will try yo claim they don't have as much power and influence as they used to but they have just receded further into the shadows. Most joshi promotions are most certainly controlled by them and they pretty much ran everything during the 80s and kept multiple promotions afloat well into the Lost Decade
>>
>>19431469
If the Yakuza are such a problem why doesn't Japan RICO their asses like the US did to the Mafia?
>>
>>19431447
Knowing about the level of their involvement with mixed martial arts over there, it'd be silly to not think they exerted control over it at one point.
The government's been dismantling the yakuza quietly for a pretty long time though, they're not really the same guys today.
>>
>>19431474
They're not a big problem.
>>
>>19431474
Because they own/work with the government
>>
>>19431447
No I do
>>
>>19431486
If they keep quiet they fit very nicely into Japan's culture, it's wrong to think of them like the mafia.
>>
>>19431488
Sign me for 1 trillion yen right now
>>
Before Snitsky cut his hair he was dimes. Then he got bald and gave him a humiliation ritual when he had those yellow teeth
>>
No, there is no criminal element to be had in wrestling anymore, it's a hobby for a dedicated group of nerds. Combat sport probably do, but not fake fights.
>>
>>19431510
As we all know criminals only do things that are cool and dangerous. I wish I was a criminal, but I watch wrestling.
>>
>>19431447
Nice self portrait there bud
>>
>>19431523
Gene Snitsky posts on /pw/?!?!??
>>
>>19431447
Used too until the late 2000s, now they are in the mma scene.
>>
>>19431469
They're not though, pro-wrestling isn't nearly as profitable as it once was.
Organized crime doesn't really bother with businesses where they're not going to make much money.
>>
>>19431651
They were always in the MMA scene. You can spot a lot of them in old PRIDE crowds
>>
>>19431657
A lot of the fighters from the Pridde days have stories about them. Bas Rutten ran into a yakuza guy that was a huge mark for him and took him out for dinner just to meet him.
>>
>>19431447
at one point they did
not sure if that's still a thing.
>>
why would they care about wrestling? they make their money from prostitution and gambling. yeah, I guess they could be laundering money, but it's not like they are backstage booking and pimping out the joshis.
>>
they control all sports there. baseball is a work. mma is a work. all of it brother
>>
>>19431474
They aren't a problem and yakuza and the Japanese government work together.
>>
>>19432378
>pimping out the joshis.
They are tho
>>
>>19432515
joshis are too ugly compare to the shit they are offering for a good price.
>>
>>19431474
They're not a problem, they have been having recruiting issues for years now, standard gangs are giving them trouble on their hometurf and they're having issues in SEA with the triads
>>
>>19431657
Still can in NJPW and Rizin crowds
>>
>>19431474
They are in decline, before that they were kept due to strong ties with goverment
They havent been removed like mafia in us because they were a known quantity that had some internal rules
It was lesser evil compared to having bratva or triads
>>
>>19431447
There are a few promotions that were tied to big scandals in the past like NOAH and HUSTLE you can probably read about somewhere.
No idea how deep the current yakuza involvement goes but there are a few smaller promotions that seem like blatant money laundering fronts. I mean why the fuck else does GLEAT exist? Why would anyone start a new in-person live event business in August 2020?
>>
>>19433733
I was thinking the extent of yakuza involvement in wrestling would be something extremely boring like laundering consistent small amounts with gate receipts
>>
>>19432564
Exactly. Besides, a good joshi can probably pull in the same amount of money you'd get pimping them out through autographs and merchandise sales. If word got out that they were sleeping with select clientele (but not the average fan), their purity reputations would plummet and they wouldn't be able to take advantage of the predatory relationships they cultivate with their fanbases.
>>
>>19431447
The Yakuza don't exist anymore and they were just a cover for real corruption originally.
>>
>>19434533
I thought they were from that videogame series and then guys started copying them because it was so cool

>Why doesn’t Japan use an American anti-racketeering law to go after domestic criminals?
>>
>>19434615
he means sending the dime drawer to clean up
>>
>>19431447
everything in the entertainment sector was 100% controlled by the yakuza up until like early 2000s. massive paydays for top talent was only thing due to them
>>
>>19434629
Were Nintendo breaking kneecaps back in the day? That'd be cool
>>
it was used a money laundering front but many of those involved also had a genuine love for pro wrestling,
>>
>>19434629
Mafia is just theater for far bigger corruption.
>>
>>19434647
who was that big 90s Japanese heel with the Yakuza aesthetic and barely concealed connections again
he wore shades all the time I legit can't recall
>>
>>19434638
>who is Gunpei Yokoi
>>
>>19434689
Wikiedia aint giving me much except that he slit his belly in shame after releasing the Virtual Boy
