1. Sell2. Learn how to work >https://youtu.be/Ert3HL-mggI&t=4288
they should learn from veterans like arn and tully
>>19638821no one, and i mean no one, enjoyed stone cold and his matches because of his selling and "ability to work"he was all characterthis is meaningless pandering
>>19638865they enjoyed his matches as well. its helpful that he knew how to work a match
>>19638877they enjoyed his matches because of his character. it wasn't because he was some sort of all time worker. there's a reason he had been in prominent roles in other companies before and never got over. it's not like he magically changed how he sold moves when he came to wwf.
>>19638821that's nice steve how about i do a flip and hit my finisher 5 times
>>19638865>enjoyed stone cold and his matches because of his selling and "ability to work">he was all characterCharacter and selling is ability to work, you don't get it yet
>>19638909what don't i get? his matches had nothing, zero, to do with his character. completely irrelevant, like most of the other stars of the attitude era. WCW was the program to watch for matches. WWF was the program to watch for the characters. i don't appreciate these guys acting like they got over becuase they just sold DDTs or whatever better. just pandering and self aggrandizement
>>19638865I will never forget how he sold the Sharpshooter for WM13, Austin's right
>>19638821This bald headed shitter would be a jobber in modern wrestling
>>19638896No one said selling is what got him over. He said it contributed to his matches being good.
>>19638973this is a thread about his advice to modern wrestlers, which im saying is bunkhis advice should be "find a specific gimmick/character that strikes a cultural chord in a very specific moment in time"but we all know why he won't say that, don't we?
>>19638936Working isn't just doing moves and selling isn't just bumping for a move, the way he sold and the way he worked in a match, mannerisms and physicality all reflected his character, that's what working is, he gave the audience something that as continuously authentic and it gave his matches an aspect unique unto himself.Funk, Foley and Austin are the best in history at this
>>19639001this is such smarky bullshitlike i said above, it's totally bunkhis entrance was over because of the song and JR's sellinghis matches were over because of his character. no one tuned in and saw a match and said "wow the way that guy moved, i need to see more" they tuned in because he was chasing vince around in the back and saying bad words with texas euphemisms and drinking beer or whatever.
>>19638964Only because people who actually get themselves over get buried
>>19639041>no one tuned in and saw a match and said "wow the way that guy moved, i need to see more"Maybe they did? The mudhole stomps were over as fuck, they didn't look stiff or snug but they made the crowd go apeshit because Austin carried himself like the character
>>19639069they were over becuase he was doing it to vince mcmahon who they had just seen him spend 2/3 of the show arguing with or getting arrested or fired by or whateveri don't want to put words in your mouth but i get frustrated by this line of reasoning because it feels very smark-ish to me and then it's used by the same people who will then go on to use smark as a pejorativethe attitude era in-ring product was, largely, garbage. so i find it highly condescending and stupid for austin to be telling anyone how they need to learn how to sell or work when that had zero to do with what made him specifically special
>>19639117Anon, the mud hole stomps were over before he even laid a hand on McMahon, I suffered through the growing pains of New Generation slowly finding its footing and growing into Attitude, but Austin's stomps were over even when he was taking on random jobbers
>>19639117I'm not gonna disagree that the angle and antics relating to Vince are what made Austin truly over in a top guy draw kinda way but that wasn't the point, just that character can be effectively infused into matches and that too is an aspect of "working" that is lacking from guys these daysEveryone is just different moves
>>19639169well, agree to disagree thenfor what its worth i dont think foley was over because of how he worked because i dont think being willing to be sorta dumpy and wear skin tight sweats and throw yourself off cages and live to get up and walk away as working. mind you, i say this as someone who loves foley and austin. i just think it revises history for an easy talking point about people not selling or not working the right way which is totally ridiculous to me given no one really was apeshit over the attitude era because of how they worked.
>>19638821not watching this but you're a retard if you take anyone on a legends contract seriously
>>19639210fair enough
Dumb marks won’t listen to him because they only care about star ratings from a geriatric kike
>>196388213. Sniff poppers while thinking about hot sexy niggers with huge nigger dicks.
>>19638936You’re faking offense at a statement that doesn’t even apply to you, you’re not a wrestler. Austin isn’t saying that learning how to sell and work is the key to success- he’s saying learn how to do it, which is basic good advice as it gets- everyone from the jobbers to the big time players to even the commentators should at very least have some serviceable skill in that area in order to make an all around compelling show, anyone can strike lightning with a compelling character but if you can’t sell or work that fizzles out quickly and won’t stand the test of the time, at the end of the day you’re not just selling and working in your matches but in your brawls, run ins, home invasion segments, anything that involves action.
>>19638865even if that's the case, how the fuck that makes what he said not true
>>19639041You are legit dumb as fuck
>>19638865Lmao good bait
