I mean the split is enforced pretty heavily until they need to build to a cross brand show like MitB or WarGames. And then if course you have the women's tag belts which are cross brand year round. But having the brand split is also what makes those moments where a Raw superstar shows up on Smackdown and vice versa a big deal even if it can happen more often than you may personally like.

I disagree, they're trying to build up a lot of young guys right now and that looks to be the plan for at least the next two years, so I would rather they have more people to work with. House shows are no longer a thing so this would be the only way to do it. Overbooking would be the right thing to do for now.
