Anybody ever notice there's a difference in ring ropes between WWE and other promotions? WWE has got those ropes that are more of the ropey threaded kind, while other promotions like AEW and WCW back in the day have a more smoother rope that seems more like a cable than an actual rope. I also notice this also means the turnbuckles will usually have a different style depending on which type of is used. What's up with that? Why do promotions go with one over the other and do wrestlers have a preference?

>>19832800Vince has this weird autism about old fashioned ring ropes. I've never heard an explanation for it.
There's a clip on Youtube where RVD explains how ECW had these steel cables through a rubber hose and how his style had to change in the WWE because they have nylon rope.

>>19832800Most rings use steel cable inside of garden hoses wrapped in electrical tape. These are cheaper and don't loosen as quickly. They're also tighter and allows for easier balance and more spring. WWE uses nylon rope. These ropes loosen very quickly and aren't as springy. WWE used them back in the day because they had more give and wouldn't snap as easily when 300lb men hit them. Very little was done off the top rope, so it didn't matter. Then WWE started making so much money, the cost of buying new ropes and canvases every night didn't really matter. The only time I've ever been in a ring with real rope, they were loose as fuck because they were old. I prefer cable ropes. Cables are better for top rope moves and springboards, but rope is softer and less painful to hit while running. Depends on the kind of wrestler.
