You recognize that there’s a part of you that loves her the way a person might love a rare gemstone, and that part of you is getting harder and harder to ignore… but then you look past her and see why you really adore her. She’s a beautiful person. Not just her sleek hair, green eyes, and amazing lips. But her soul. You know it’s corny, but it’s true. You don’t think you ever felt this way before, not even with Victoria. Victoria was comforting, relatable, but Laura is… like a support beam you didn’t know you were missing. It’s for that reason that when she asks you to tone it down, you promise to do your utmost and seal the promise with a peck on her forehead. “I’m sorry. I’ll try to be more careful in the future. I promise. I’m just glad you’re not angrier at me. Aren’t you the least bit peeved?”Laura thinks it over for a moment. “No.” “Why not?”“It is a combination of factors.”“Like?”“For one, my current fondness for you impairs my rational judgment.” That has you crack a smile, “and two, although you may refuse to acknowledge it, you have adopted a leadership role amongst the inhabitants of the Exclusion Zone, like those of Jono, Hisako, and Julian. It would make sense that if anyone were to become a public face of the Mutant population in the Zone, it would be one of you four. I believe you are the best option.”“Not just 'cause I impair your judgment?”“Julian is too brash. Hisako is too idealistic. Jono is capable, but too moderate. You embody the best of all these traits.”At this, you scrunch your face. You always thought of yourself more like a mediator than a true-blue leader type, but she’s right. For lack of better terms, you have a seat at the table and have been going around taking names, ever since the whole southern-belle vampire incident. Between the gang fights, Mr. Negative, taking out Leland, working with Silvermane, working with Moon Knight, and now handling the Triads and Bratva to stop Jack from flooding the street, you’ve become what ‘Cuda always called you. A hardcore muffagin gangsta. You suppose you don’t like thinking about it… because it feeds that part of you that thinks of Laura like a thing to covet. “Is there a third reason?”“… it may be because of my impaired judgment, and it would also seem to be opposite of my current opinion, but if anyone were to make rash decisions and somehow come out better for it, past circumstances show that it would be you.”(1/?)
>>6363634“You think I’m a big mutie and can take care of myself?”“I believe you can endure a heightened level of corporal punishment.”Yes, that you can. A while ago, you would have been more modest, but now you think you can dish it out, too. You bring Laura in for a hug, which she seems to process for a moment before reciprocating, wrapping her arms around your waist. You stay there for a second, the two of you taking in each other's warmth and sensations. She's like a mannequin, poised and perfect, heart beat steady. You wonder if she thinks you're like a furnace? Thanks to your wings and this amazing feeling of euphoria you get from sunbathing, you feel like how cats must feel lying in the sun."... do you want to come plant some stuff with me?" You ask, still keeping your arms around her."... yes... but I do not know if I am greatly suited to growing things..."“Well, you could always trim the hedges.”Laura gives you a look, but not one that tells you she took offense to the idea. If anything, she looks to be considering it, looking at the back of her hand and running the image in her head. “Perhaps. Should we see who else wants to join? Layla is around, as is Lucas.”“Oh yeah, definitely. Chances are, they already came across that field of grass, so seeing a whole orchard is gonna blow their minds.”“I shall go find them.”“I’ll have a surprise for you when you bring them around.”Laura cocks an eyebrow.“… well I can’t tell you what it is, otherwise it won’t be a surprise!”“… fair. I will go and find the rest.” You give her one last peck on the forehead, to which she answers by one-upping you and pulling you back to smooch you on the lips. Off she goes, leaving a shuddering sensation through your body. The air smells finer, and the world seems brighter, and though life on the run at the mercy of the streets has taught you to be a bit suspect… you feel like everything’s going to get better. Even the Scar seems to be looking better recently. You can still see your breath, but the sun warms you, nourishes you like never before. Now, as you make your way through the Scar, scattering the occasional handful of seeds, returning to where you first took in the rays of the sun, that euphoric feeling begins to play havoc with your rational mind. What about the MCA just outside? You’ll deal with them in time. What about the Facility still hunting Laura? They’ll break like fine glass. What about the Bratva and Triad? Not even they’re stupid enough to attack this place after the Six failed. What if the MCA calls in the Sentinels? Between you and Noriko, and the dozen other Mutants here, you could take a few…What about Joseph?… (2/?)
>>6363637He will bow before the Priest of the White Crown. You snap out of that train of thought, rational coming back to the forefront of your mind. Before you know it, you’re standing back in the patch of high grass from where you had taken Laura on your flight out. You shake your head and blink rapidly. As you wait there for Laura, wings unfurled, you begin to wonder how much of what you’re thinking is really you? You remember your dad letting you read a book from his study. Descartes. The famous ‘I think, therefore I am ’. But Descartes probably didn’t have to deal with being a Mutant. You tell yourself that this isn’t about you. It’s about them. You pick up Laura coming with a trio of others. Soon, Layla, Noriko, Kevin, and Lucas are also joined."Where's Gaby?""She is else where, with others," Laura answers.“So, what’s this all about?” Layla inquires, “Something about you growing stuff?”“Something like that.” You intone, as you fish the last seeds out of your pockets. “You’re not gonna tell me your blood does for plants what it does for people, are you?” Lucas pipes up, “'Cause if you’re going to go full Aztec, I'd appreciate a warning.”“Never go full Aztec.” Layla jokes.“More than that, you’re not worried it’s going to attract more attention?” Kevin voices his concern, “I mean, we mostly live in a subway. It might get overrun with roots…”You shake your head, “I’d thought about that, but don’t worry. I’ll just tell them to go around.” “You talk to plants now?” says Noriko, “What can you not do?”“What plants have you brought, exactly?” Laura asks.“A couple. Apple seeds, pears, bamboo, and sequoia.”“Johnny Green Giant over here,” Layla speaks, “The fruit I get, but why bamboo and sequoias? Aren’t those those huge California trees?”“Bamboo has many uses, including construction and even commercial consumption,” Laura informs her, “In much of East Asia, bamboo shoots are eaten, and bamboo scaffolding is still used in the modern day, able to reach up to thirty stories.”Layla nods at Laura’s informative trivia, “Okay, but why the sequoias? You wanna start a logging company?”“I could probably bring down a sequoia pretty quick,” Kevin notes.“I was thinking we could carve them out. Make little huts and stuff out of them.”“I was joking about the lumber thing…”(3/4)
>>6363639“And I’m serious,” You say, “Even if we don’t, it’ll still give us plenty of shade in the spring and summer, give us a break from the cold. Can’t go wrong with sequoias.” Baller tree, the sequoia.“I still say it’s a bit much…” Noriko trails off, “But it’d be nice not to have to worry about food for a while.” “I’ll have to be more careful with touching things,” Kevin adds, “but yeah, it would make the place look more natural. All these hollowed out buildings kinda depress me.” “I don’t think I ever had a pear, but yeah, I like this idea!” Lucas finalizes.Laura looks at you as you spread your wings wide, letting them catch the rays of the sun. You breathe deep. Today feels like a good day to do this. Not a cloud in sight, whatever you plant is going to grow fast. You only need to ask yourself… how much power do you want to put behind this? Even without any solar power, you could produce some saplings and a couple of healthy sprigs, but with a real boost, you could jump-start every botanist's dream. Lucas also had a point about your blood. If you can help people heal with a couple drops, what could you do to plants?>Best not to juice the seeds, you want them growing naturally.>Some GMOs never hurt anybody… (+2 Solar Charges. A little blood.)>You want these plants coming in soon. (+3 Solar Charges, a bit blood.)>Nothing wrong with a good harvest! (+4 Solar Charges, some blood)> Your people have gone without long enough. >>6363644>Nothing wrong with a good harvest! (+4 Solar Charges, some blood)I held hope CJ would run again eventually, but I figured he'd stick to his decision not to run on /qst/. I imagine he had a lot going on at the time as well to be running quests one the side.I hope this thread'll go well, Jr. HMQ was one of the quests I felt deserved continuation when migration from /tg/ first happened.
>>6363644>Nothing wrong with a good harvest! (+4 Solar Charges, some blood)I've really missed HMQ, we've never had a good replacement for it imo, I'm legitimately happy to see this and hopeful for where its goingalso FUCK PHASEFAGS

>>6363702ya ithink Laura taught him how
>>6363702He was learning, but certainly wasn't fluent. Even if Jr.'s intent with the dialogue was to just simplify writing a nonverbal character, saying "Kevin voices his concern" is a pretty confusing way to do it.
>>6363701No joke. I remember the prank someone pulled last time.>>6363700Thank you, anon, that slipped my notes since I've only noted threads 1-123. But yes, for the sake of simplicity, Kevin is signing.>>6363677>>6363693>>6363701+4 Charges with some blood wins, roll 1d20+4, Bo3 as is standard.

Whaaaaaaaat - I had to double take when I saw scrolled past this quest
>Nat 20>Plantman, eat your heart out>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkAgabtJTYMYou breathe in deeply of the air in the Scar. Your wings flap lightly and spread wide to absorb as much incandescence as you can, casting a wide shadow. Your mind reaches out to touch the seeds that you had scattered through the debris of wrecked buildings and dilapidated streets. What you’re doing feels less like a command and more like a direction. Lizards. Plants. They’re both green. You and the leafy greens are one. The grass below your feet grows, because upward there is more sun… but you tell the grass not to obstruct the saplings that arise from the apple pods. Every seed wants its own share, but with a wave of your hand, you convince them to work together instead. Everything works better together! Some incentive also helps. You hold your hand out and dig your nails into your palms to open wounds, sprinkling vitae to soak the seedlings. From flecks of your blood springs new life, ravenous for more, so much that they nearly reach their hungry stems and roots into the gash as they climb to waist height, but you guide them away to join other sprigs, intertwining with others of their kind. The creaking of bark and slithering vines take over your senses as bamboo groans, germinating its rhizomes through the earth, cracking through stone and concrete as the plants spider-web through the dirt. Laura, Layla, Lucas, Kevin, and Noriko all make way for the cracking pavements as the trees spring up and overtake the playground. The roots of the sequoias quickly become as thick as a person’s leg, displacing rock and dirt.Even so, you did promise Laura you’d be careful. So, you’re going to keep the really big trees deeper in the Zone. The outskirts can have those tiny trees that people have on sidewalks, but the further in you go, you want people to see the nature. A mental command, and the root systems intertwine, linking together so they can share your blood as one, feeding of your dripping essence. The others that spread along the alleys and streets absorb the nutrients in your blood, and sprout so quickly they nearly tear up the concrete where they landed, flat and needle leaves alike sprouting to eat more of that delicious sunlight. “You guys want to ride a tree elevator?” you ask the gang. The answers are mixed, Kevin signing so-so, but everyone else seems into the idea.(1/?)
>>6364127So it is that you really begin to take hold. The blood flows freely from your hands, the apples and pears and sequoias and bamboos all clamoring for more, and more you give, as beneath your feet, branches harden and leaves sprout, as a single great tree rises in the center of the Scar, an amalgam of the four different seeds you sowed. The tree rises high, and soon, the ruins of the abandoned section of New York begin to look like a wild and unkempt Nature Reserve, and you help the gang get a birds-eye view as the Sequoia-Apple-Pear-Bamboo hybrid roars to life under their feet in that way only trees can when they groan in the wind. The branches become as wide as a person, and the leaves quickly fill in, followed by buds and blooms, blossoming into flowers that bear fruit. Plump and juicy ripe red apples, nearly the size of your fist, and the pears, thanks to mingling with the three other plants, take on a new shade of brown. The gang has to keep low to keep their balance as the tree hoists them up, using the trunk for support, but all of them have a shared smile on their face as they’re carried up into the air with you. The tree quickly overshadows a several story building. The gnarly and knotted trunk looks like something out of a fantasy movie, with more popping up like pylons throughout the alleys. With a final mental signal, you direct the tree to form more knots and branches, forming a stairway from the top that spirals around the trunk to the bottom, before directing the branches to bring the gang together. Finally, your wings furl back, and you unsheathe the nails from your hands. The fruits around you have shed their blooms, letting loose petals of pinkish orange flutter off like snowflakes. Below you, you see greenery like never before, dotted by the beautiful petals that slowly drift off. You nab one quickly, and hear the gang approaching your ersatz platform. Laura is first to join, followed by Noriko, Kevin, Lucas, and then Layla. Layla notably has a fruit in each hand. You hand Laura the petal… and though she looks grumpy, she takes it. (2/?)
>>6364128“You said you would be more careful…” You nod, “Which is why only this tree is super big. Those others took a lot of convincing not to grow more than a few stories.”“JJ, we’re overlooking the city, this is insane!” Noriko says.“Yeah, insanely cool!” Layla shouts, “And you said I wouldn’t wanna be a mutant. This thing is like the size of the Statue of Liberty, and there’s a ton more! Plus, these things are delicious.” She takes a bite of the apple, where the juices squirt out of her mouth, and Lucas takes the pear.“I mean, on one hand, she’s right, but on the other… she’s right,” Lucas says, taking a bite out of the pear. He mutters an explicative as he chews the flesh of the fruit. Kevin, meanwhile, signs ‘Big Big Biiig’, impressed with the sheer size of the tree and its unique shape. ‘Danger’? “Maybe… but, like I said, the roots avoided the subway, and now, pretty much everyone in the Scar has free food. Imagine all the jam we can make!”“You are being far too cavalier about this…” Laura says, turning over the petal with her fingers “… but, as I said, if I were to trust anyone…”You take Laura by the waist as the lot of you look over the expanse of new greenery. It’s like your own personal observation deck. With a bit more persuasion, you could convince this big ol’ tree to make itself into a bungalow or something. You find it oddly fitting that you’ve been calling this place the Scar for so long… since scars can fade with time. Right now, though, you're feeling reeeal lightheaded. This time, it’s Laura who picks you up, catching you as you stumble.“John, are you alright?” “Pffft, you kidding? Dude just grew a forest from nothing, I’m surprised he’s still standing.” Layla says as she slurps the last of her apple up. “You definitely need some rest, dude,” Lucas adds. You nod along, thinking that, yeah, perhaps now would be a good time to rest. You sit down for a spell, Laura coming down with you.“I’ll take the express elevator when I get my bearings, no worries. You guys be careful on the way down. I tried to tell this thing to install safety railings, but…”“Take your time,” Noriko says as the group all begin their trek down, “… hey, Layla, do you have more of those apples?”(3/4)
>>6364131Laura stays behind with you, the two of you sat there atop the massive gnarled tree. She leans in and puts her head to your shoulder, and you put your cheek to her head. You wrap your wing around her to keep the wind from bothering her. She’s a badass mugga, but even badass muggas get cold. You sit there together, watching as news choppers fly by, catching footage of the sudden plant growth. Yeah, in hindsight, maybe the Sequoias were a bridge too far. You can only imagine what Hisako, Jono, and Julian are going to say about this. You had thought to plant them underground, but, really, a tree nearly the size of Lady Liberty was never going to stay inconspicuous for long. Maybe it’s not too late to set up a mushroom farm?Your feel your phone vibrating in your pocket. That might be Moon Knight. Maybe you’re blocking his view of the moon in the day? The thought brings a chuckle.“Do you find trees amusing?” Laura inquires.“No, not that. Just thinking. Sorry I didn’t keep my promise.” Laura sighs through her nose, “We had already embroiled the local mutant population in a gang war. While this is certainly escalating, I can imagine something else might come about that renders this trivial. But don’t make a habit of breaking those promises.”“Swear it.”The two of you continue to snuggle together and bathe in the sun’s rays. Things can only get better from here…(4/4)
Aight das me for today, biiit of a rough start on my end, but I chalk that up to nerves. I'm off to lala land and will bring about a new post once I get some rest after this very productive day. Stay tuned!
>>6364133>>6364133Off to a good start man, Kevin aside lol. As you finish noting the threads, I have two screenshots from the askblog (now tragically defunct) that you might want to keep in mind. Crusty also hinted at a LOT of future plot points and narrative beats (T3 powers possibly being unlocked after the final phobia trial, the thing in JJ's dreams, what's going on with his dad, etc.).
