Welcome to /qtg/, a place to talk about quests.Previous thread>>6407330>What is a quest? An interactive story in which a Quest Master (QM) writes and provides the readers with options on how to proceed — similar to a choose-your-own-adventure book or an old text adventure.Questionably Useful links:>QTG discord: https://discord.gg/dZavHuK>Skirmish discord: https://discord.com/invite/DZCVvVU>Evo Game discord: https://discord.gg/xGZAX9tAvx>Old pastebin containing advice for QMs:https://pastebin.com/Z78p8gXfBadly in need of renovation.>Archiving guide:Go to http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/requestqstinterface.htmlFill out the request form to archive a thread.Threads are also automatically archived by other websites, such as archived.moe.>Formatting guide:Only the thread's OP can format. Could you see yourself continually running something for years on end and still being as committed then as day one? Has there ever been an ideal number in your head you envisioned your quest reaching before it caps off at that point?>Player Question:How buddy buddy do you prefer to get with your QM?>General Question:What are your feelings about spending time and money on commissions for quests given the reality that at most you'd be doing it for five people at max?>Lurker Question:There is no question. Vote.
>>6434447>QM questionWell, life slowed me down but i want to :>Keep running Normal Cultivator Questuntil "completion" or anon killed Quiet Word Dead>Finish my Under Hunter quest/skirmish thingGood ending impossible with how bad the roll of "age of savant society" went. So one thread or two remaining. Won't run that next though.>Player Question:Really chumy buddy.>General Question:I'm doing it for myself and the captive audience. So I'm quite okay with that - with a preference to make people of the board work though.
>>6434447>What is the longest you ever hope to reach for in terms of running your quest? Could you see yourself continually running something for years on end and still being as committed then as day one? Has there ever been an ideal number in your head you envisioned your quest reaching before it caps off at that point?I've been going pretty strong for 2 months and don't feel particularly tired of writing it which is a nice surprise.I actually think I could run it for years if I have the playerbase to back it up. Got a bunch of loyal anons right now which I'm eternally grateful for. I've got and end point I'd like to reach, and from there on decide if I stop, continue or pause and eventually make a sequel.>What are your feelings about spending time and money on commissions for quests given the reality that at most you'd be doing it for five people at max?A lot of people spend time and money on commissions to have something just for themselves. Most commissions you'll pay for will probably be for yourself and a very small cadre of people. If you wanna do it and have the money, then do it, enjoy it. Print it out and hang it on your wall with pride.
>>6434447>QM QuestionI'm going on five years of continuous running.>Player questionIt depends on the QM. I've been burned before.>GeneralThe smaller number of people makes the time or money spent here more appreciated. Usually.

>>6434480you have fingers of gold, i love your writing.
>>6434447>QM Question:I don't think I could wrap up the main story beats I have in mind for After-Bloom in less than 6 threads, but I could see myself running it for longer. I think it took some feeling out of the format and trying ideas before I found one I can hang my hat on, which AB definitely is. I could see myself doing 10 or even 15 threads, but it mostly depends on the community here - if it keeps dwindling the way it has since I showed up, there may simply not be enough readers/voters after a few years. I will definitely need to take breaks and try other stuff, too. Writing about the same subject every week, every day even, for half of a year? That can get tedious, I need to explore different ideas and worlds regularly so they keep fresh even as I continue to map them out. I am prone to a lot of ideas, and lots of different kinds of ideas, too. If I don't express them with my stories, it's like they burn up energy inside me when they should be externalized, almost. >Player Question: It's a small neighborhood, and this kind of storytelling benefits from familiarity. The more I know about a QM's tastes, temperament, and goals with a story, the better I am able to participate in building the meaningful narrative they are hoping to create. So, I like to ask questions, I like to prod a little, and it's nice to feel like in and out of character we are on the same page. >General Question: I'm not loaded, but commission prices are in my budget and worth it for the personal sense of actualization. I only have one piece of fan art that a reader commissioned, and I have it copied to two thumb drives and I have a copy I physically printed, with plans to frame it. I have poured so much time and energy into writing this story, if I were getting a wage for it comparable to what I'm paid at my actual job, it'd be thousands and thousands of dollars by now, surely. If I really wanted to I could go back to ghost writing or look for a side hustle as a copy editor or something, and all the time I spend on AB could just go into that. Similar craft, but for at least $15ish an hour, likely closer to $25 or $30 if I really looked? When I view it that way, like, the value of the labor I already put in and how that could be 'capitalized' upon if I spent the energy differently... Yeah, I'd spend $100 or $200 to breathe more life into this world I have cultivated and that I want to share with people.
Making quests is harder than I thought it would be. A busy month and my updates have been sparsed and few in between, to the point my quest has been archived with no resolution.Even though I have finished written my next planned update, I am cutting my loses here. Maybe I will make a new quest again here one these days, when I'm better prepared and have less baggage. For those who have participated, I thank you. Main reason I made the quest is to get some ideas for me to write my novella featuring my Spider and Cat, which I I think I got enough base materials to work with through this quest.
>>6434447>QM QuestionI feel like commitment comes in waves, there are scenes were you're really hyped to write and see the players reacting, but until you get there you'll have to pave the way step by step, and that's the tiring part since you don't know how long it'll take to get there. My quest is kinda long given the scope of it, but I hope I can get to the halfway point at least in a year from now.>Player QuestionI like them to be friendly, but I don't really need to know all that much, really.>General QuestionI'd do it if I had money to spend on it, really. I've gotten plenty of funny meme images on the first thread and it really gives life to the threads for me. I haven't really though about how the MC looks on mine so that's something I'd have to work on, but yeah, fanart is always cool.
>>6434447>QMQFor Gaol Quest, I aimed for it to finish within 10 threads, while it did achieve that goal it felt a bit rushed. For Jail Quest I aim to have it finish within 20 threads, and I've paced myself better this time, so I'm sure I can finish Jail to everyone's satisfaction. One thing I noticed is that the longer a quest goes, the higher the chance of it flaking. I still miss Lamplighter, bros.>PQA nice comfortable distance of 'chill with it'.>GQMore fanarts are always nice! But since I'm in forever hustle mode over here, I'm content being the one that's taking commissions :B
>>6434447Cursed OP image.>QM Question:>longest you're hoping forWhen I first began, I was hoping for something that might last through my Bachelor's....I have since taken on a second Bachelor's, and I don't think I'd *let myself* run any quests that take longer than 5 years to finish. >Continually running something for yearsYes, given that I have technically kind of done that with Pokepocalypse.>Still be committed as day oneNo, not 100%, but a good 70-80%-- apparently, yes. I know the only reason I burnt out on Pokepocalypse near the (current) end was because my life was just spiraling out of control, not so much because of the quest itself... but I know I wouldn't be able to muster the same enthusiasm as I once had for it just due to the franchise it was based off of.>Ideal number for the quest to reachI honestly don't think I've ever thought about this, it's such a tiny thing. I think I wanted to reach double digits within the first year and a half of Pokepocalypse, but due to the 4chan hack and /qst/ taking huge hits in activity between its start and current hiatus... that obviously did not happen. Still, six threads isn't bad... right? All I know is that I don't think I want any of my quests to ever go beyond 25 or 30 threads. Any more just seems like way too much. At that point, my effort would be much better spent writing something more polished, and I highly doubt most people would care to read that far if they weren't actively following along from the beginning.>Player Question:I talk a lot and my favorite thing to do is make mountains out of molehills so that I can decorate the mountains and show them off to other people. It does not matter how buddy buddy the QM wants me to get with him. I WILL theorize a bunch of shit about his quest, whether it has any basis in reality or not, and he WILL like it.>General Question:>commissionslol, y commission when can draw?Joking aside, I generally do not commission anything if I can help it. I much prefer to draw it myself (even if it inevitably comes out looking like shit). I'm sure this'll change when I get more of an income, but for now I'm extremely stingy and won't make anyone else do what I can do myself. That "five people max" thing is half the reason I usually don't draw for my own quests. The other half is that I'm a lazy bastard with self-esteem issues who doesn't want to.
I miss The Little Dungeon that Could.
>>6434677Whatever happened to that QM? Weren't they making a new questing site?
>>6434677Me to, buddy.
