Anyone else grew up with religious trauma? How was it for you guys?
>>82920590My father was too much of a retarded loser to ever grasp theology and my mother was raised Episcopalian but became an atheist early in her life. I was never indoctrinated into Jewish folklore, so the couple times in my life that I attended church service it felt 100% like a cult meeting and that I was not welcome in the building. People who've been doing that shit their entire lives have no idea how utterly insane their rituals seem to people outside of the bubble. I've heard stories of ex-Mormons and Catholics having trauma because they're literally brainwashing victims, but criticism of religion is not something that is discussed in polite American society.

If I was ever upset I needed to "pray it away" meanwhile my Mother would yell and complain and whine at the slighest inconvinence. I'm not proud of dislking her, but I'm glad I read the bible for myself and understand she isn't actually the devout christian she prentended to be, many of things she said lies.

>>82920590When I was like 5/6 my mom hopped on the John Hagee train of "hurrdurr Harry Potter and Pokemon are dEmOnIc" and it was all downhill from there. Started being homeschooled, she was super into the Westward Expansion time period and basically wanted to LARP Little House on the Prairie. Hell, we couldn't even celebrate Easter, Halloween or Christmas because of their "pagan roots". I thank God every day that I'm an adult and away from all that weird bullshit.
