Interests like history, sports, social groups and gatherings, or crafts such as cooking, woodworking, pottery, or the like.
For me, though, the defining aspect is it must be engaged with out of a genuine, individual interest in the subject matter. Fashion, for example, is a hobby if the girl genuinely just finds it satisfying and enjoyable playing with various clothing types and finding combinations that look good TO HER, idk, I am the least fashionable person in the world so I don't profess to understand it. But if her sole interest in it is what looks good TO OTHERS, it is not a hobby. This is the difference between a girl that sits at home drawing various clothes on a paperdoll or some shit, and one that just consumes by purchasing. In one, there is a genuine interest in the subject (And in learning more about it, trying new things within it, inventing or experimenting with one's own fashions, etc) that is it's own reward. In the other, the reward comes in the form of attention and validation from others (And the individual does not innovate in any meaningful way, merely copying or imitating others like a soulless automaton.).

I think I've pretty clearly deliniated that the line between a hobby and not a hobby is, to me, where the drive to engage with it comes from, within oneself for it's own sake, or out of a desire to appease or impress others. This does not really relate to that line in any way, so I don't have much of a response.

Idk a lot of women ive met are good at drawing, play instruments, are good at make-up, play vidya, do sewing/knitting.

The thing i've noticed is that a lot of their hobies are very surface level, as in i tried it, got ok at it and moved on. A lot more guys are actually hobbyless empty work drones, but its usually the guys too that are GREAT at things, while women are just meh at a bunch of things.

If they only read escapist fiction or manga I could see that being an argument but someone who reads books about history or to learn about a topic that interests them that is more than just entertainment in my opinion. Some women create entire journals dedicated to the books they read; breaking down themes, plots, and more introspective thoughts related to the material. I would argue someone who does that is actually engaging with the material beyond mere entertainment. A lot of guys just consume video games constantly and don't meaningfully engage with any of the story, they just play to the end and jump to the next game, or they play it nonstop and get good at it without forming any career or purpose other than treating it like an unpaid internship forever and that always seemed like a waste of time to me.
