i loved that one tripfag who would post on here with the name 4chan: A Place for Friends and try to get everyone to join his skype groups. he was always so positive as was christfag, whom i had to respect given the nihilistic smug atheism of the original board before it ported its culture over to reddit. no matter how nasty everyone was to him (including me) he was nothing but nice. it was a nice break. the only real female named user i can remember from that period was called cyan, and she posted the :3 and :3c faces you're doing and lived in i think daytona? because she talked about it a few times. unfortunately i stopped using skype in about mid 2010 and literally forgot who was who in the friend list before the platform depreciated. had a jumpscare not too long ago finding some rebuilt version of skype and it listing a few names that suddenly clicked with whom they had been.

i don't think it would have been as big in 2014 but for a spell /r9k/ loved transformice, this french-language mouse-themed puzzle platformer. there were a ton of threads for users to join chats and meet people. we had a great time in there. very vivid memories of playing that and robot unicorn attack on vacation with a laptop overheating my thighs while reading pictures for sad children and xkcd which were two of the most commonly posted webcomics. seriously pfsc's little ghosts were EVERYWHERE. unfortunately the people in there started killing themselves and /r9k/, along with seemingly the rest of the wider internet and especially 4chan, started its rapid descent into destabilization and polarization. what a shame. this was one of the best places on the internet during its silver age. i miss it dearly.

Part of me thinks it's unconscious looksism from women. If you're a faceless Discord avatar, or you exchange pics and you're not attractive to her, she switches to thinking "this person is boring" even if the real problem is that you're ugly. I think this is just how a lot of people are these days. I have the same issue with guys. They say "hi" and I start making conversation, I ask them things about themselves and they never ask anything in return, they just reply to my question. i'm glad you didn't. i've had many friends kill themselves off of here and irl. it's always very strange when they were someone you considered yourself very close to and talked to all the time but because the relationship was private you feel intrusive attempting to offer condolences or attend memorials. all you have left are the news articles about them, if there are any, and a few obituaries until they inevitably go offline. on sites with actual archiving, many family members just delete it all. there was a boy i had liked in hs whom i spoke to anonymously on tumblr often, and one day he hung himself (over a girl, of course). i only found out when his blog suddenly completely disappeared and a mutual friend was texting me about how his body was found in tears. others have jumped in front of trains and had nasty articles written about how inconvenient and disgusting it was to see their remains, or have overdosed intentionally or shot themselves and you only find out weeks after when everyone is quiet and nervous. if they write you into their note, they blame you for it. it's especially bad if they were asking for you in their last days and you never knew because you just weren't there.

besides, funerals are crazy expensive and some form of dealing with the remains is required everywhere. the least expensive i've found for my own suicide was still going to be a minimum of $8k just to wrap my body in gauze and dump it in a hole in a natural burial. and no life insurance pays out in suicides. the funeral industry is far more predatory than the wedding one, comparable only to birth.

As awful as it may have been, this place felt like home when I felt I don't belong anywhere.

I'm really sorry you've had so many tragic experiences. Losing friends is always difficult. It seems by being here we chose to surround ourselves with it to a degree.
I also lost a close person I met on r9k to suicide. I've known him for years and we were very close.We met in real life too. I've seen a picture of his grave, sent to me by a mutual, but I could never get the courage to go visit it myself.
There is one person I was super close with from US that stopped talking to me out of blue. Where do you find obituaries? I was never able to confirm if they're alive or not, I wasn't able to reach them. Last we spoke I know they've been going thro very difficult things in their life.

I hope you've changed your mind about your own suicide and are living a happy and fulfilling life now.
