We have very little freedom and it's been in steady decline since the 1960s. It's hilarious Europe, Asia, and rest of the world thing America is such a great free place because we are constantly under crushing and punitive taxes with mountains of pointless red tape, licensing permits, etc.. The wealthy benefit from the same misappropriation of justice. The regular hard working people just trying to get by have the book thrown at them. America has for profit prisons, so they select the regular joes because more prison means more slavery and more profit. The worst of the worst do not make profitable slaves which is why the slap on the wrist. They only need enough monsters in prison to terrorize the normal guys. Dui laws are the best example. The crime is driving and not hurting anyone. America has draconian punishment, if no one is killed or injured the more they trump up your charges. Going through the whore process to avoid being sent to prison costs tens of thousands of dollars. All this money goes straight to the pockets of corrupt judges, attorneys, and cops. It's the perfect crime, the only victim is the one who either pays up or has there life ruined. Drug industry too, lots of money flowing through court, and the cops are the ones selling to the distributors and dealers so they are profiting from both sides.
200 years ago it was a cool country. 100 years ago still mostly great. 50 years ago it was a bad country, and 25 years ago it became a dumpster fire. I really can't think of a single good thing about it.
