How do we lower the costs of groceries?

stop making poor choices for your political leadership for a start
>>
By not fighting wars for Israel.

most people are so fat, they could not eat for a month and they would lose the weight and save money.
i think the costs should be even higher to stop waste of food.

Reduce Taxes and reduce government spending
>>
>>84390896
Government subsidies are the reason why food was ever cheap to begin with. You should be advocating for more of those.
>>
>>84390914
Government subsidies distort prices and make the problem worse
>>
>>84390853
i assume that's a lot more complicated than that, lol
reducing taxes won't always work because the suppliers will just keep the profit (if people were already buying those for that price, why lower it?)
increasing supply may not always work either, they can just sell at more places for the same price
hmm...

the only thing i can think of is if the government were to buy the supplies and resell them at a lower price (and forbid the distributors from changing the price)
that would cause some immediate impact and the lack of demand would push the regular suppliers toward lowering their own prices to match the government-sold ones

but fat chance of that ever happening lol
>>
Maybe don't spike energy prices that are used in every aspect of modern life
>>
Decrease the demand and prices will fall to make up for things. Growing your own food can reduce the need to purchase food by as much as 100%.
>>
>>84390984
freezing the prices will just make the problem worse
>>
>>84391083
does that classify as "freezing the prices"?
and how would that make things worse?
>>
>>84390952
no they don't for food prices they keep farmers from going bankrupt which lessens volatility in the food markets. hahaha but you're 17 so you don't understand anything

>(and forbid the distributors from changing the price)
if people cant change the price they wont see a reason to keep selling, making them give up on producing and since the demand didnt change and the prices are frozen that leads to food shortages.
>>
How? I have my own garden, raise some backyard chickens, and sometimes forage during my hikes. My s/o hunts and fishes. It lowers our groceries by about 30%, and only because we like our frozen goy slop.
>>
>>84391237
oh, i meant it more like, the government wouldn't necessarily have shops or other distribution points all set up
so in case they resorted to selling their goods through regular grocery stores, they could put that in place to prevent the store from raising the price of an item, which would defeat the purpose of that move

e.g. an item normally sells for $10 and it's a high price, so the government buys a load of those and resells them for $2.5 a pop
to prevent stores from selling it to consumers for like, i dunno $5 or $7, they'd restrict the stores to selling them for $2.5

different thing, but yeah i can see where you're coming from

Borrow billions worth of groceries and then dump it at market price in minutes
>>
One solution is requiring all food grown with fertilizer pesticides or herbicides to be treated with some chemical that has an overwhelmingly bad odor. Allow no exception for organic fruit and vegetables. Unethical farmers would struggle to even give their crops away for free, meaning the poor would have no difficulties affording food.
Additionally, life in prison for any farmers who hire or temporarily use illegals, migrants, foreigners, etc.. Americans should be able to purchase food actually grown by Americans. If life in prison is too strict then tax the produce grown at a 100% rate.
>>
>>84390866
We need to get rid of all the damn policies and bills and shit that makes it so that presidents have such power for wild swings of grocery prices. The fact that they can affect the grocery prices is a bad thing.
>>
>>84390853
Go back to eating like peasants (basic grains and meat slabs) You have to learn how to do all the preparing, This reminds me of how roman citizens turned into byzantine citizens, then into medieval serfs
>>
>>84391521
It's truly crazy to think about. The average peasant had a much better quality of life than the average American. They worked less, they ate better, they had less crime, they enjoyed more freedom, they had stronger community ties, they enjoyed better health, they had less mental illness, they had lower taxes, higher marriage rate, lower divorce rate, higher birth rate. Kind hard to find a downside other than life expectancy of 16 years, no antibiotics meaning you instantly die within minutes of getting a scratch, and the whole world being in grayscale instead of color. TV likes to portray them as backwards but they were Christian. America is pagan and routinely mutilates the genitals of children. In peasant Europe they would execute people who tried to do that kind of shit.

Play Farthest Frontier IRL and fish and farm and start a chicken coop and raise cows and shit like it's fucking 1833. What's the point of all this then? We might as well just blow everything up and go back to rural living if we need to live like it's 200 years ago.

I spend $50 a week for groceries, stop being fat. That $30 ham is not worth it and you don't need that $5 chocolate bar. A box of oatmeal is $6 for 6 meals, there's 6/7 of your breakfasts for the week right there.
>>
>>84392122
5$ worth of deli turkey and a 15$ bag of salmon + rice and veggies can get me through a week.
I think a lot of Americans problem is they have put zero thought into food, planning, organization or anything, they pretty much just wing everything or they're the opposite and they're mentally ill pedantic food freaks who end up with nutrient deficiencies because they don't understand the concept of balance.

>blast music everywhere with lyrics like AND WE ALL STAY SKINNY CAUSE WE JUST DONT EAT
>nobody eats, get skinny
>nobody buys food
>too many groceries, revenue down
>have to lower prices to entice customers and move stock off shelves
supply n demand. simple as.

Hold companies accountable, HUGE penalties for shrinking existing product without disclosure OR for changing key ingredients (exchanging milk for onions, peanut butter for corn syrup and extract, etc) OR for deceitful packaging
Give everybody free government cheese from the cheese caves not just the super poor there is still over a billion pounds

more green energy
make it pay for itself better by either scaling like China or waiting and slowly scaling like Yurop, so you're in profit asap or can consider it "free" energy.
move development of important tech (incl. green)
more automation
more ai and robotics (but unironically)
stop giving a shit about the economic system
voila, you have an overabundance of food (like today) but you don't have overcharge or destroy the excess produced food (to keep inflation and shit in control) to keep some retarded economic system going.
