If you like roguelikes, you're a subhuman. In fact, you're worse than people who play only football and basketball games

Are we talking Dungeon Crawl/Nethack/TOME4 roguelikes, or "modern" definition BoI/Dead Cells/Spelunky ones?
>>
What is roguelike?
>>
>>84412642
I'm playing hades and don't see the appeal or why it's so popular or why games like this are so popular now. My guess is an affordability crisis with the modern gaming audience, pushing them to cheaper slop genre games.

I've played a lot of roguelikes. But I do admit, that they don't offer a particularly enriching experience. They are just massive time sinks. It's like gambling, but instead of money you input time. And maybe if you win a run, you'll get a little high, because you overcame something challenging and got to add a little check mark on the endless list of challenges the game offers. I suspect that for me it's a maladaptive coping mechanism.

short, digestable sessions that progressively get harder, rewarding skill. It's a nice sweet spot for people who think RPGs are too long and everything else is too short.

Roguelikes offer pure gaming experience without modern AAA horseshit - gay plots, unskippable cutscenes, cosmetics, politics, boring gameplay loops. Roguelikes instantly challenge you and provide just enough randomly generated variety so the repeated plays don't get stale

Some gaymer jargon
>>
>>84412720
>RPGs are too long
>spend thousands of hours on nothing burger
>>
I have over 1000 hours in TBOI. I have been playing the game ever since Afterbirth released on PS4.

this is OP's point though. lack of depth. nothing is preserved beyond achievements.
>>
>>84412840
>you don't have digital items in your digital inventory to show off so playing the game is pointless
you people are actual npcs, i swear
>>
>>84412840
What "depth" is there in bear sex sims like Baldurs Gate 3?
>>
>>84412745
>pure gaming experience
>randomly generated
Movie games somehow are better than that shit
>>
>>84412642
>A gay idiot says:
>"If you like roguelikes, you're a subhuman."
OK.
>>

This.
I just want a game with very in depth mechanics and player elements and customization, but with actual enjoyable gameplay.

>UHHHH YOU HAVE TO LIKE WHAT I LIKE BECAUSE I THINK EVERYTHING I LIKE IS THE BEST BECAUSE I NEVER GO OUTSIDE AND TALK TO PEOPLE SO I DEVELOPED SOLIPSISM :(

>nothing is preserved
Will you take your cheevos and epics to the grave? All things end.

I was playing football in preschool when there were still kids outside to play with
Got into rouguelikes as a teenager and now am bored of them
What you fail to see is that how others enjoy life shouldn't be your issue, rabbi

the blazblue roguelike has better action game controls than any 2d game ive ever played

it plays like an arcade coin game, which is what I grew up with, so games like that and Absolum tickle my autism on a technical level. I've played every genre of games for over 3 decades and interacted with every single community from dumb sports game niggers to race purist strategy lads, and i've only ever really formed a hatred for the kids that exclusively play 2hu games. Those fellas stink through the screen.
>>
>Daggerfall has randomly generated dungeons
>okay but they're mostly dead ends and shit
>Morrowind has dungeon maps someone actually made in an editor
>great, excellent use of 3D environments
>Oblivion devs brag the game will be procedurally generated (the cool new thing) but dungeons will be handcrafted
>we're right back to copypasta sameness everywhere

D&Dfags have grappled with this for decades, to the point they have cutesy terms like 'Jaquaying' for good dungeon design. humans sit and doodle maps that either have some sense to them, or are fun to play.

now you nerds tell me you WANT infinitely generated dungeons, nothing more than the whims of an RNG/algorithm? no 'aha!' cleverness you can figure out, just an advanced game of poker?

fuck it all.

just play tetris
its the goat
unironically. i've been on tetr.io lately
but dont play ranked 1v1s if youre prone to raging
i get so wound up i sometimes take off my belt and whip my legs
>>
The term became too broad, there is fun stuff like nethack where every run feels like a new actual story, there is just randomizer shit like isaac or hades where the core is the same and you are just playing a slot machine to get something that works.

Randomizers are fun because random is always fun, but yeah the infinite replayability is bs.
