They don't have to be a professional at something, but they should at least do something entertaining. There are quite a few very talented vtubers out there, but the ratio is still around 80/20.

>>84422770I've been watching streamers for a bit more than a decade now. And before getting hooked on VTubers, I solely watched male streamers. Speedrunners, FPS autists, Minecraft fanatics, those are the kinds of guys I watched. And now, I mostly watch vtubers and the vast majority are women. The most obvious difference between the two is how much women hate streaming. The moment one of these vtubers has money in her pocket, she will disappear for weeks or months. I remember watching guys have donation events where they would make enough money to live off in a year, then they would go back to streaming at least 40 hours in a week. But vtubers are on another level in regard to wealth extraction. 4 subathons a year, where she "sleeps" for 17 hours a day, no goals completed, 6 vacations a year (you will not see a single stream from her during "convention season"), and on the off chance she does stream, it's an ad stream, it's just absolutely insane to me how some of these women have fans with they obviously hold contempt for their audiences. That said, there are still times when I enjoy vtubers, or I have a period directly after finding one where I like watching her, but then more exposure long term general erodes those feelings. Like, I'll probably watch Pippa when the new Coffin of Andy and Leyley chapter comes out. But if I made a habit of watching her, she would likely disgust me on a fundamental level.

They're more entertaining than regular streamers. A few I like are Pippa, marimari_en, chromuchromu, and roca rourin.
I only find Laimu entertaining to watch since she actually plays a pretty decent variety of games and her design had some thought and effort put into it, couldn't give a single fuck about any other Vtubers and 99% of them just sound like nails on a chalkboard when they speak to be honest.
While understandable to not reveal your identity vtubing is effectively applying makeup to your entire existence and often pretending to be a small anime girl. People may foolishly assume they're immune to the passive deception just because they're aware of it, but that's not how it works. Your perception is always skewed by it and the benefits they receive by portraying themselves as an attractive anime character should speak for themselves if you look at the market for it.Honestly while it's effectively falsifying your identity and personality it's not much different from how the most popular humantuber names ended up rising, people like pewdiepie/markiplier/caseoh for example are putting on a false character and not to any small degree though that should be obvious to most. It's nearly all of them though, people like reaction content and if your reactions aren't turned up to inhuman levels then it's boring.tldr - you should be vtubing (voicecels will need an ai voice changer as well)
