I have been on 4chan since I was 20 (now I'm 27) and I've seen people coming and going over the course of many years. You can classify the userbase into 2 categories: tourists and actual losers. The tourists make up the majority of the traffic and rarely end up staying on the site longer than 1 year. The others are those who are too hopeless to be functional members of society, no matter what happens to them. Getting friends, a gf, a wife or becoming rich will not save you if you're part of this category. It doesn't make the sense of being a social reject go away, and nothing else will. If you've been here for more than 3 years you will most likely never leave this place, because this place attracts people like you, you are this place.

I think the majority of tourists don't bother to post, we just look at the interesting threads and move on.
