I don't think BPD existsthere's a sliding scale from CPTSD (traumatized but workable) to NPD (unworkable, "BPDemon" archetype) and the differences are largely behavioralthe same paranoid trauma thought can happen to both, e.g. "he is definitely cheating on me," but on the CPTSD side of the spectrum the behavior this results in is mostly just crying and internalized feelings of guilt whereas on the opposite NPD side you see wretched behavior like "well fine I'll just fuck all his friends and key his car"also you absolutely can't trust self reports because NPDemons will lie through their teeth to try and convince you they're just traumatized and sweet and "fixable"also to add to this I'm absolutely confident the vast majority of BPD diagnoses especially among teenage girls are misdiagnosed NPD. NPD is a very dire diagnosis, especially for a young person and it's generally agreed upon narcissists can't really be treated. Whether it's for personal interest (more future visits) or genuine naive disbelief that their patient could be THAT BAD it's almost always the case they get slapped with a BPD diagnosis instead of BPD

most people diagnosed with bpd get better after adolescence. it's only really the extreme (and most valid) cases that persist lifelong. You're right in a way, BPD was unironically just what they used to roll up all their old research of Female Hysteria into. However, some of the symptoms are so consistent and debilitating that it deserves to be seen as a thing IMO. Plus, dbt and drugs has a pretty good success rate for making bpd more managable.
