Dad asks me to help him take the blades off his lawnmower this morning so he can change them. I was in the middle of cooking lunch but had about 20 minutes to go so I agreed. I grabbed a bottle of silicon spray lube and a breaker bar and went down to the basement. There's a bolt in the center of the blade that holds it on and it was stuck. All I had to do was put the socket on and pop it off. If it was too tight, give it a little spray and let it soak for a few minutes. His plan is to put the wrench on the bolt and the pipe on the wrench and jam a stick in the blades to keep them from turning, but he doesn't have enough hands. This seems really stupid and it obviously won't work. No wonder he needs help. The wrench can't even grab the bolt. He's just fumbling around and stripping it more and more. I try to suggest using the socket wrench. He says no. Keeps fumbling and wriggling around on the floor. It's not working. I pull on the pipe for him. The wrench slips off. Fumbling. Try again. Again. Not working. I try to tell him. This is obviously not the right way to take off the bolt. That's why it's not working. It will come off very easily if you just use the socket and the long wrench. He keeps wriggling around in the dirt and fumbling and hurting his hands. He squeezes the wrench harder. My lunch upstairs is burning.This kind of behavior is EXTREMELY typical of him. He doesn't know what he's doing and always needs help, but he absolutely insists on doing it in the most difficult way possible. How the hell do I deal with this guy? He's such a nightmare, honestly.
