I suspect part of the reason this is happening is in general, women have a much higher aesthetic literacy than men, and most of the people working in the game industry right now are idiots who don't give an actual fuck about art outside of video games or whatever some social media algorithm shoves down their throat. As a result most games right now are derivative, gay, and kind of garishly ugly. It doesn't help that most indie games pull from the same references, and the easiest way to make quick dough there has always been to shit out a cheap throwback. Pretty much any game from the 00s that I remember any girl really gravitating towards was absolutely gorgeous on an aesthetic level, even in the case of more gruesome games like the Silent Hill series. This problem will get solved once actual artists start becoming a priority in society again - not just bland, risk-averse tech industry rejects with a "creative side." Until then, the slop will continue. I say this as someone who worked in the game industry for years and saw this issue first hand, and left largely because it was just getting worse.

a couple friends wanted to see outlast so i streamed it for them a couple weeks agoit was fun. i don't think i'd call it a "good" game by any means, but it somehow became a comfort game for me. i don't recall how many times i played through it, only that i showed them the multitudes of saves i had way back from 2014 when i played it over, and over, and over again, to such an extent that i never once ran out of batteries. i used to think i was so much better than everyone else because fnaf had just come out to much love but i played "real" horror games.i mostly play mascot horrors, votv, and vintage story these days. sotm was fun. no, i did not and still don't want to fuck gluskin.
