So apparently there were these massive Wasian meetups across America recently, basically celebrating being Wasian. It has stirred some controversy online because it was exclusively white + asian mix only. Reading the back and forth, it dawned on me that Wasians no longer see themselves as just part Asian and part white but they identify specifically with being Wasian. They are like a whole new race in a way. Otherwise they wouldn't have any issue inviting half Asians of other makeups or half whites of other makeups. They don't identify with Asian or white. They identify with Wasian specially. You are either Wasians or you are not. It was just the first instance of me witnessing this among biracials and I found it interesting. I'm mixed and I noticed that some mixed people will just identify with a pure, so they will choose to be black or they will be "nothing", so they don't identify as black or white. It's really rare to meet a mixed person who tries to identify as white, but being white is gatekept, being pure anything is gatekept. If you don't act like the stereotype, then it won't work out for you no matter what you identify as.
