in my high school earth science class we went outside and did an experiment using geometry to calculate the circumference of the earth. some ancient greek guy named eratosthenes did it like 2 million years ago and it still works.

It's irresponsible toward the planet, which is the only place we can live normally. Microgravity causes crazy birth defects and cosmic radiation is deadly, so permanent space stations won't work, plus you need an entire ecosystem to produce healthy animals for proper food/nutrition. Living on another planet wouldn't work because any alien life would be deadly to us, and a planet devoid of life wouldn't be able to sustain us naturally.
