I need to clean my pc but I'm afraid I'll fuck something up or accidentally kill myself.
>>84663475I feel you. It's when you have enough knowledge to use and run one but not enough to clean and maintain one.
>>84663488I mean I will do it and HOPE that I don't fuck something up, I think I also need to reapply thermal paste which is even scarier to me
>>84663502Yeah that is scary, this is why I always have one PC-wiz friend I go to great lengths to keep around in my life, so when I need PC repairs/help he can zoom over. This is how I've been getting around learning for years.
>tfw my computer whizz ex did that shit for me and all my computers need a tune upFuck! Fuck! Fuck! I know your pain. My one pc won't turn on anymore and my front pc is on windows 7. I KNOW IT'S BAD, I know. It's hard. I hated that nigga as a bf but he was great tech support. He has a new gf so I can't get him over here it'd be rude ugh
>>84663821I do have a friend like that but uh he is an online friend so at most all he can do is give me advice through video chat or whatever
>>84663475Turn it off and very lightly dust it. Don't overthink it
I kind of have two different faraway places I live in at different times, and I regularly have to completely take apart my computer, pack the parts to bring with me on an airplane, and then reassemble it again in the other location. I keep a case and a CPU heatsink in both places so I don't have to pack those, but everything else goes back and forth.Every single time I put the thing back together and go to turn it on I'm terrified I've broken something and it isn't going to start. This most recent time I thought I had bricked the CPU because it wouldn't start at all, even to go into the BIOS, and the CPU diagnostic LED lit up on the motherboard, but I had actually just gotten thermal paste cleaner in the socket and not let it dry properly. When you're constantly taking your computer completely apart and putting it back together and it still works just fine, you realize that something like opening the case and using air duster to blow out the dust is completely trivial
>>84663839just pay him to do it, no big deal!>>84663884yeah but I heard you have to hold the fans while dusting it, two of the fans get stuck sometimes and struggle to spin now, in fact the other day I didn't notice one of them wasn't spinning and I played for 4 hours until my pc overheated and turned off.I think smoking in my room was a bad idea, I don't do it anymore but I did do it a couple of times >>84663917well, now I feel a bit better lol but that sounds scary, taking it apart over and over
alright I dusted my pc but two of the fans still struggle to spin, I might need to replace them
>>84663475pay to have it done>it's easynot really, if you wouldn't do it with your other electronics like the washing machine or the fridge or the tv why would you do it with your pc
>>84663475You have to keep it turned on while cleaning it so the electricity has somewhere to go, it gets angry if it has to stay in the PC too long.
>>84664551but uh they won't check my files will they? >>84664587I don't know if you are joking or not...I turned it off but I made sure the fans weren't spinning while dusting them
Don't clean it out. All that dust has to go somewhere, and if it's not in your PC that means it's going to be all over everything else in your room.
>>84664610well now you just triggered my ocd anon, thank you
>>84664604He's trolling>shut down and unplug computer>take it outside>if that's not possible go to a room with a hard floor that is easy to sweep or vacuum>remove panel>spray with compressed air>go at it from different angles to get as much dust as possible>if there are any bits stuck on fans or around the case you can't get with the air you can use q-tips to jar them loose (spray again with air to remove that dust as well as any loose q-tip debris)t. been doing this to clean my computers since before most posters here were born
>>84664645one of my fans is clogged, like it struggles to spin a lot times, how do I fix that? do I have to take it off or it's time to replace it?
>>84664604No, you can just be next to them if you're worried, but for cleaning it there's zero reason to do soThey will only turn on the computer to prove you it still works well
>>84664664Tough to say without seeing it IRL. Might be fucked or it might just need a cleaning. Remove the dust and see if that fixes it. If not, probably needs to be replaced. Fans can break when they are constantly spinning with dust. But if the fans are broken it doesn't mean you have to stop using the computer until they are replaced. I've used computers with broken fans for years without any problems. Just monitor temps to make sure it doesn't get too hot (there is free software for this). You'll also have to clean it more often.
Kill yourself how? The electricity? Just turn off the power supply and unplug the PC. Then hold the power button for a few seconds. Boom, no electricity.
>>84664693yeah I think it's because I went too long without cleaning my pc, google says alcohol might help but I wouldn't mind changing the whole thing just to be safe.it's the fan attached to the liquid cooling thing, I'm new to desktop pcs sorry, I don't know the names. >>84664696I'm exaggerating, I'm just scared of fucking something up
>>84664729The most likely thing you'd fuck up is unplugging t hings from the motherboard and then not knowing where it reattaches. You can just look up the motherboard's manual for a diagram on your phone or something
>>84664645The bath water cooling is great, I love some nerdy spergy gooner made that lmao.
>>84663475>megaman afraids of electricity
>>84665295that's not megaman that's trill
