why do doctors ask you to rate your pain on scale of 1 to10 isnt it subjective based on how much pain youve experienced

Usually they use it to see how worse/better it got or gets
>>
>tell them my pain is 6/10
>uh thats pretty high
no it isn't
>>
yeah
as someone with really high pain tolerance I've had multiple diagnosis fucked up because I just couldn't feel them
>fractured my tibia beneath my kneecap, went undiagnosed because it wasn't THAT bad - fused weird, knee is permanently fucked up
>rheumatoid arthritis went undiagnosed because the joint pain "wasn't that bad"
>deviated septum went unaddressed my entire life because the migraines and sinus pain "wasn't that bad"

Pain rating is used as part of a framework - e.g., SOCRATES. Yes, it's subjective. They can't objectively know how much pain you're in, and this part is really only used to establish if you need analgesia or not.
