Counting years and dates makes no sense. Sure it's "august 5th" or "new year" or "2020" but really, every day is just another day, and seeing them as any other thing is an illusion
It helps to record history
>>84752969That's obvious; what isn't is using it as a true thing for anything in your life, including doing stuff. When it concerns others, sure; but when it's about you? Thinking it counts there is the mistake
the future doesnt exist yet i think about it...so stressful
>>84753072well then how do you schedule things without dates? how do you coordinate society without a measurement for time?
>>84753177it's like you didn't even read the post you're quoting
>>84752892>"new year"this is so fucking funny
>>84753181whoops. meant to reply to OP. still holds up though, we use dates to uphold our sense of time. what's it matter if you think in matters of "456 days in the future" or "next febuary"? what do dates "count" besides a system for time? your post just sounds like pseudo-intellectual babble.
>>84753282its perfectly fine as a tool, but when you stop seeing it as a tool and instead see it as objective reality, ie you actually think tomorrow is thursday or you're 26 years old or you miss the 90s, you covered reality with it. Every day is just that, another day; and I get it if it sounds like intelectual babble, that just means you didnt get it
>>84752892Are you by chance african, specifically south of the saharan desert?
>>84753380Stupid people usually think of smart things as "obvious", have you ever wondered how that happens? No, of course. You just know that obvious things are obvious.
Ackhually the position and angles relative to celestial bodies is pretty useful for agriculture. Maybe not pisces is a retrograde cancer Hermes kind of keeping time. Broadly speaking, summer will usually be warmer than winter. It's also useful for hunting as migratory birds follow patterns, even reproductive cycles of mammals like deer. It makes no difference for city slickers with their ghettos and suburbs but others make use of it.Measurement is really interesting I think. Like the mil, 1/1000". Burgers love fractions whether it's a machinist or just goofing around in the kitchen with 1/3lb burgers, an ounce is 1/32qt, tablespoon is 1/2oz, teaspoon is 1/3oz. Metric system has its limited applications but it's really bad for fractions. You used to see more apothecary stuff in medicine but some stuff is still measured in grains, but you mostly see it in firearms and reloading now.It would be really cool to have an orrery installed in the ceiling powered by mechanical weights and springs. That probably makes it easier to intuit how it actually affects life. Just earth and sun, maybe moon would be enough, but why not make it cooler? Not like attics really serve much purpose so you don't even have to super tight and efficient, allowing more focus on accuracy and less need to wind. But also the make automatic watches so it's possible to make one self winding using thermal change or wind.
i quite like the way UNIX handles time, no. of seconds since January 1, 1970, or whatever. what you see in 4chan filenames. the 'epoch' could be whenever and yeah, it's barely human readable, but it's utterly unambiguous as long as we all agree to accept the idea of a 'second' (SI/metric units are just as arbitrary as Imperial, but don't tell scientists that.)
