Being a zoomer who grew up on the internet massively impacted my mental health.

My brain is not made to handle crazy news daily like "this streamer cheated with her cousin" "this streamer bangs a hammer on his face to get female attention" "this black person says murder is good". I want normalcy. I want to make zoomer friends who do not live online. I want to know less about everyone. My brain is just sad and tired.

I'm genuinely so mentally tired.

read a book
if you can get through one cover to cover in a weekend at most, there's still hope for you
>>
You're not supposed to be on social media for more than 1 hour per day. Go on a niche website if you can't find clubs irl.
>>

You wanna know what's scary? Most zoomers only got access to the internet during the beginning of their teenage years and it already severely altered their brain chemistry.

Imagine the effect it must have on the minds of young babies with access to iPods from parents who can't be bothered to act like parents.

I have two baby cousins that spend half of their days watching either elsagate-like content or cringe inducing skits on YouTube. Whenever i tried to make them watch actual cartoons they aways cried demanding to watch the videos again. The oldest one is 5 and doesn't even know how to read or count yet.

It breaks my heart, man. I know it's a known boomer thing to complain about "kids these days" but i'm legitimately concerned about what kind of adults they'll grow up to become if this continues. No other generation in history has had such instant and free access to quick dopamine rush and endless information at such an early age.

I feel like this will be our generation's version of "turns out smoking cigarettes is bad for your health"
>>
>>84800868
how does this mentally affect you at all?
>>
>>84801231
>how does social media addiction affect the mind?
are you above the age of 18 perchance?
>>
>>84800868
You can leave at anytime. Nobody forces you to participate in this terrible game.
>>
>>84801217
you'll just be replaced by immigrants and people who were too poor to afford an ipad
>>
>>84801355
humans are social animals, most chronically online people don't have friends or significant others to replace the social aspect with.
>>
>>84801348
I don't mean social media addiction in general, but specifically this
>"this streamer cheated with her cousin" "this streamer bangs a hammer on his face to get female attention" "this black person says murder is good"
it seems so inconsequential
>>
>>84801355
I met a customer who called himself a Chud irl. Kids are screaming nigger and everyone has a phone glued to their eyes. The boomers were right about one thing and it was that.
>>
>>84801371
it's just constantly playing with my moral shock system, and then i get annoyed because i can't do anything with said information that state the obvious (murder, self-harm, incest are bad) i just want one day where i can talk to people without hearing about weird shit.
>>
>>84801400
I feel for you, but I fundamentally do not get it. What bothers you about someone saying 'incest happens and it's bad'? I'm not trying to be obtuse, but I sincerely don't get it. How does the idea of self-harm and murder shock you?
>>
>>84801371
This would be a fair argument if streamers were not harassing people in the real world and farming unsuspecting strangers for content. You cannot go outside without the risk of being permanently stamped onto some streamerfag's catalog.

Don't even get me started on the ones who wear those metaglasses to stealth record you in forced conversation, or the ones that harass workers trying to do their jobs.
>>
>>84801427
I never thought about that, but I was already insanely paranoid about being seen and hearing people in public so. Good point either way, but is that what OP is referring to?
>>
>>84801419
No, it's just hearing about horrible news constantly to the point it overtakes good memories/news. And socmed pushes bad news because negativity gets more attention.
>>
>>84801441
Most likely twitter. Honestly my mental health improved so much when I deleted twitter that it isn't even funny. Elon turned it into a bot-infested, engagement bait garbage. Even r9k is better.
>>
>>84801466
Yeah, duh? But does that not make you want to disengage? Maybe I'm just uniquely immune to the skinner box, not that I genuinely think I am, but that shit annoys the hell out of me and I'm so not into it. I guess I just don't get the addiction to strong emotions.
>>
>>84801483
People are naturally addicted to outrage as our brain is constantly searching for threats. Extremely taboo crimes like incest and murder is outrage material. Doomscrolling addictions affect your dopamine receptors and nervous system which makes it even harder to get out of if you have ADHD (a dopamine-based mental illness).
>>
>>84801495
It's not like I've been abstinent from all forms of social media, I'm a zoomer too. If you say people are addicted to it naturally, shouldn't that include me too? This is explains nothing.
>>
There are entire forums that teach people how to reduce screentime yanno just find something more stimulating that doesn't stress too much
>>
>>84801506
Just because something is natural doesn't mean everyone experiences it. If you don't experience the adverse effects of doomscrolling then you probably cannot understand and should be glad you don't.
>>
>>84800868
Anon. You don't have to look at that shit.
I've been online for over 20 years and can say with confidence that streamers are the most annoying motherfuckers online and there's a million better things to do than watch their content. Anything funny they make will be clipped and put on YT.
If you want friends that aren't perma online you need to meet people outside of chatrooms.
>>
>>84801483
>But does that not make you want to disengage?
For some people the internet is their only form of socialisation even if it's not a sufficient replacement.
>>
>>84801523
This is just more twitter drivel, none of it means anything. Ironically also the reason I'm not on social media, because this shit annoys me. Literally nothing is appealing about listening to people talk like this, if you're addicted to that, get higher standards.
>>
>>84801506
I think they mean people naturally are drawn to negative engagement bait, but people who get actually addicted tend to have mental illnesses or lack social connections in the real world so they don't have anything forcibly preventing them from getting addicted.
>>
>>84801536
Are you purposefully trying to ragebait me to make a point or are you actually trying to say something here?
>>
>OP opens up about struggling with social media addiction and loneliness
>UGH THIS IS NONSENSE THIS DIDNT HAPPEN TO ME SO ITS FAKE JUST STOP BAKA
yeah i'm sure that's helping
>>
>>84801548
NTA but even in fandoms and hobbyist spaces you're going to get barraged with politics and ragebait it's just bleeding into everything now. If you don't understand you may just be retarded or a boomer.
>>
>>84801554
I'm not trying to help, this is all self-serving
>>
>>84801544
You're on a board full of people spamming twitter screenshots, you didn't escape.
>>
>>84800868
Wait.
You think those things are crazy?
But why?
>>84801371
>It seems so inconsequential
It is.
I don't understand people who obsess over celebrities.
>>
>>84801558
I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I know it does, I just don't understand why people engage with it when they know it makes them unhappy, if they engage with it the algorithm will show them more of it, it's damaging them in the long run and it's not even giving you a hit of dopamine.
>>
>>84801466
Someone saying something is not horrible news, it's an opinion.
>>
why do zoomies care about streamers so much

it should take you a couple times posting in their stream to figure out they don't give a fuck about you lol
>>
>>84801567
yes, and I don't engage with those? I just fold the thread and that's it, doesn't affect me
>>
>>84801535
>just make friends
College was full of people huddling in cliques and ghosting me whenever I tried to befriend them. Work is barely better because my coworkers only discuss work. And no one wants to go on dating apps where it's essentially prostitution via dick appointment dinners because white BPDemon sluts ruined the dating market.
>>
>>84801577
the mulatta fucking her cousin isn't an opinion and i miss when i didn't know she existed

If you don't provide alternatives to social media then your advice is completely worthless.
>just join a ___
Most zoomers do not join clubs they're on their phones scrolling tiktok all day this is why no one says they wanted to be born after 1997, only before it.
>>
>>84801581
I think people are just tired of hearing about them, like I wouldn't even know who Clavicular was if he wasn't boosted everywhere
>>
>>84801574
>I just don't understand why people engage with it when they know it makes them unhappy,
... Do you know what addiction is?
>>
>>84801574
Bad news does give you dopamine hits, why do you think "black fatigue" /pol/ is spamming Karmelo threads? Because it gives dopamine to see black schizos act out.
>>
I genuinely don't know any American zoomer who is happy at all.
>>
>>84801598
Nigger, how the fuck does that affect you?
>>
just falling in line with the old good narrative, you are such goys it's astounding
