I had a cat. She loved me and I loved her. It was really great and I still think of her, but although it was a meaningful relationship, it wasn't a substitute for human relationships. And I had none and felt sad because of it, and the existence of my cat and our relationship never stopped me from hating my life sometimes, or at least some of its outcomes, especially when it comes to how I was friendless and alienated. That's why I don't think pets are the key for loneliness. Maybe making friends should come before having a gf, but that is it.
