I switched to Linux 2 years ago and it absolutely boggles my mind that almost everyone still uses Windows.
Like, holy shit what the fuck. Why? What possessed you to choose the most cancerous and non-free operating system?

I'm unemployed and I offer Linux installing services to people in my local area and nobody ever calls. People wont let go of Windows 11 but at the same time they complain about it daily
>>
>>85015610
kek linux installing services
>i plug the USB in and click Install
>>
>>85015610
fonts suck ass on linux for me. even with correct rgb subpixel layout setting and antialiasing on. they have this red tint
i'll probably switch when ltsc stops being viable though
>>
I had promised to switch to Linux if Windows 10 stopped being supported. Still using Windows 10 because I'm tech-illiterate and can't be arsed with doing all that complicated shit.
>>
>>85015615
Yes, anon.
You'd be surprised how many people are absolutely scared shitless about making a USB bootable with Rufus and choosing it on BIOS.
I have a friend who uses computers 24/7 and she absolutely won't do that and says it's outside her comfort zone.
99% of people use WIndows and it's because of retarded and psychological reasons such as this
It's an untapped market, just saying
>>
>>85015633
yeah i was messing, i had a student job as a dev at a national computing center and the team lead didn't know how to kill a process through terminal. didn't know what grep or curl are. they were all on ubuntu yet they acted like they were on windows. they lost their shit when i set up an nginx api gateway for local testing of some of their apps. these are professional developers with like 7 years of experience. one of them was looking for a new job as a mid or senior and was pissed off that everyone expected him to "know what docker is". i am glad ai is coming so bad devs are forced to git gud
>>
>non-free
you're part of a cult. everyone is basically just waiting for Richard Stallman to die at this point, then OPEN SOURCE projects can make some real headway (ideally under a permissive license).
>>
>>85015656
I'm a terminally unemployed webdev and I know all of that shit.
Been applying for junior jobs for 3 years now, haven't landed a single one.
People online keep telling me I should just "git gud", I keep telling them that for some fucked up reason only the dumb and incompetent are given jobs and money in this society.
>>
>>85015681
yeah nah its either you're a super cracked olympiad level programmer who gets a job at jane street as a quant at 16, or you get the job via connection. it is absolutely insane how shit most employed devs are. as a different example, some API was getting scraped by an AI from china. their solution was to range ban all traffic from asia for 3 days... which is like 25% of all their regular users. i said "maybe we could so something more sophisticated, like a scraping detection or throttling or a rate limiter" and their response was "durrr that sounds like wooork and i dont know how to do thaat". thats why i decided to fuck off from the industry and go for a doctorate while being a research assistant. i am not dealing with this shit man
>>
Unfortunately people aren't willing to learn how to use Linux, neither do many companies give Linux support for their programs so many have no incentive to switch. Though people who really care about tech should be using Linux, at least try to double boot.

>bro just use an OS that requires you to have a CS PHD just to install 2 programs and play a videogame
>oh and shit will randomly not work on it or not be available for it
I'm good.
>>
I dumped my piece of shit rotting Linux laptop for a MacBook a few months ago and haven't looked back.
>>
Linux is free if your time is worth nothing.
>>
>>85015856
how can you use a mac? i ran a mac on a virtual machine to check some iOS/macOS bug and it is the most disgusting user-unfriendly design ive ever seen. i am genuinely flabbergasted people use that shit, and some even say that the UX is THE BEST PART??? How could you go from linux to mac wtf
>>
>>85015610
Linux sucks dude. Half of the shit barely works on there. Windows mogs
>>
Linux is shit. It won't run even a quarter of my programs under WINE, and a half is flat out buggy.
>>
>>85015847
Anon, I'm a retard and I'm playing Cyberpunk on linux right now.
You know I'm a retard. You'd be the first person to admit dat
But here I am using Linux daily
>>
>>85015935
The Apple experience is designed for people who don't actually use computers but want the most expensive laptop to show off at Starbucks
They only use it for checking Instagram and uploading photos from their iPhone
>>
>>85015935
The UX is about the same as like Linux Mint or any such easy Linux distro. The real advantages are the high quality speakers/keyboard/trackpad/screen/batterylife and the fact it 24/7 runs smoothly as fuck; genuinely don't think I've ever experienced a moment of hardware slowdown.
>>
>>85016030
Linuxnigger will drop thousands on their piece of shit framework laptop and then say this.
>>
>>85015610
I don't have the mental energy to watch 2 episodes of anime, how the FUCK am I supposed to figure out which fork of linux actually fucking works with my library of video games. One operating system every 5 years is 2 too many. I ain't dealing with manual programming bullshit.
>>
>>85016070
it is nothing like mint wtf it's a completely nonsensical layout to me. and the way they fucking force you to stay in their retarded sandbox ecosystem my God. i tried absolutely everything, you cannot even test your app on safari if youre not on MacOS or iOS. ZERO tooling. Most hostile system ever made, fuck apple.
>trackpad and keyboard
lol, lmao

>>85016081
i do shit on my laptop, wtf does apple even allow you to do on a mac? scroll tiktok and look at cat photos?
>>
>>85016023
I have enough experience with it to know it isn't easy to use.
Also no matter how big of a retard you are, there's always a bigger retard.
>>
>>85016093

I'm OP and I switched to Linux because I have aggression problems and I simply couldn't deal with Windows 10.
It made me rage almost every day.
>be in a hurry. Windows decides it's time for an update, can't shut down pc.
>always slow
>everything you want to do is behind some hidden menu because Microsoft doesnt want you to use your own pc

I just got sick of the "we own your pc" attitude. It just sickened me so much it gave me the strength to give it up
>>
>>85016104
>i do shit on my laptop, wtf does apple even allow you to do on a mac? scroll tiktok and look at cat photos?
OK if I'm being honest yah all I do with my 'puter is listen to music look at pics take notes for school and play Undertale. But so what? I'm not a dev and neither are most Linuxniggers.
>>
>>85016159
>all I do with my 'puter is listen to music look at pics take notes for school and play Undertale

Think about this for a second.
Every year we do the same shit with our computers but they make us get faster Internet, buy new GPU's, buy more RAM etc.
But the shit we do never changes, it just requires more power every year.
>>
>>85016159
oh ok i am a ML researcher so linux is great and everything else is shit, dont comment on fucking operating systems if all your computer activity can be reduced to a fucking playststion or a phone

people who dont use their puters for actual puter stuff should not weigh in
>>
>>85016187
Tru but the joke is that Linux is the best choice even for simple normie shit.
This is what normies dont understand. They think Linux is hard to use or for coding only.
It's nut.
>>
>>85016196
well yeah but ive seen normies (try to) use computers and they are cattle so i dont give a shit what they say. any time someone comes after linux saying "muh X doesnt work" ok?? fix it yourself then retard??? "my bloatware was designed in such a way that it relies on more proprietary bloatware, this is why your system sucks" lol
>>
>>85015847
It's not 2005 anymore, it's a lot easier to use for normoids to the point Steam is installing it on their devices
>>
>>85016219
yeah, everything is easy on linux nowadays, but the "linux is hard" meme is equivalent to the "evil hacker known as 4chan" meme. normies just like to pretend that things are cooler/more difficult than they are
>>
>>85015610
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!
