Not to say they weren't a thing before hand, but there was more breathing room between each trend and eventually something with staying power would come along. But in the 20s? There always something going "viral" for some odd reason and then being forgotten by the next month. Part of it could just be a natural, but unfortunate consequence of how many people are using the internet.
