FIrst off, a non-asain person unironically saying umami is cringe. Its just the japanese word for one of the five basic tastes that we call savory, its not something mysterious and inexplicable that only can be expressed with that word. Secondly, tomatoes by themselves are shit, useful only as part of a sauce

But you can disagree with common consensus and think for yourself. You're an old person, as am I. You surely can remember a time when no one knew what the fuck umami was. Its just a bunch of nobs who were like "ooh whats this flavor how can we describe it" and then they all started using umami 'cause some chef twat said it and it became trendy. I think it's a more precise word than savory though. Savory also encompasses fatty and creamy flavors, while umami is more a more specific flavor. I'm sorry but languages will evolve over time and borrow from other cultures, and there's nothing wrong with that.
