The people aboard Columbia (the shuttle that exploded in 2003) died the best way possible. They had basically no clue what was going to happen to them - footage from the cockpit shows them laughing and joking before re-entry. They might've had an idea something was wrong when pressure alarms came on for the left wing/landing gear tires, but by the time they literally became shooting stars (from California to Louisiana), they were long dead/unconscious.

Yeah it's horrible what happened, but they died doing what they loved (mostly painless) after a successful mission with no reason to be afraid.

Challenger was better, they had everything in front of them and no alarms, just mission control "challenger, go with throttle up"

Columbia’s crew received the first indication of a problem at GMT 13:58:39 and depressurization started not later than GMT 14:00:35 so that's about two minutes of dread and fruitless troubleshooting before disintegration
idk sounds pretty bad but there are worse ways to go
