Japanese uses hiragana (ひらがな), katakana (カタカナ), and kanji (漢字). Kanji literally means "chinese character" if you look at the characters that are used when writing it. The Japanese adopted the Chinese writing system over a thousand years ago (before that they didn't really have anything) and they also took some of the readings. Kanji can have multiple readings depending on the word. There's onyomi (the chinese-derived reading), and kunyomi (the japanese reading). Some words are made up of only kanji (like 皆既日食; solar eclipse) and some are a mix of kanji and kana (遊ぶ; the verb "to play"). Katakana is often used as emphasis (like how we use bold/italics) and also for loan-words (ロケット; rocket). The kanji that Japan uses are the traditional Chinese versions, while China has mostly migrated to a simplified system that's easier to write because there's fewer strokes. The Chinese and Japanese kanji are like 90% similar but they are slightly different because I think even traditional Chinese kanji have been updated after Japan adopted the system. So depending on the font your computer is using it may show the Chinese versions of kanji even if what you're reading is Japanese. See pic related.

Maybe. Most of the time the NASA administrator is because there was a party switch in the White House and the new administration wants its own friends to head the major agencies, but there's no law saying that NASA admins need to leave. Dan Goldin was appointed by George HW Bush, and he stayed at NASA all through the Clinton years. Apparently Isaacman's got a much more stable and positive relationship with Vance, which could conceivably keep him running NASA until 2032.

Solved ideas dont make it to everything in the world. Either due to lack of expertise, patents, engineering challenges, awareness, other design or external constraints. But I would think Starships should be equipped with lot of sensor locally and be able to interface with all the sensors to get useful data easily for the crews.

I think wearable tech will never catch on because people who would be the first to wear wearable tech are the clinically unfashionable types who repel pussy no matter what they wear and whatever they wear gets stained by them by association.
Basically virally marketing the whole product category as "only utter dorks would ever wear something like this".
Ferrari and Roll-Royce will actually refuse to sell you a car if they think you would tarnish the brand by owning one and can repossess your car. They understand this.

When first mobile phones came, they were expensive and by necessity marketed to/by rich businessmen.
Owning one of those ugly bricks would signal wealth and importance.
But now electronics are too cheap to produce, techbros are too wealthy and Chinese manufacturers too willing to sell junk to ever create that sort of exclusivity that would override the "it's weird" instant reaction.
Dorks don't care because they are already weird.

Google Glass was a fantastic product that was an abysmal failure because they first handed it out to Silicon Valley programmers and similar types to test out and soon after, any geek could just get one to snap creepshots (or so did most people think of them).
Instead of very gradual adoption from handful of celebrities and billionaires from top down sort of way.

Tesla did this right when they started with Roadster, marketing it to LA Hollywood fuckwits who wanted to virtue signal owning ecological car without having to drive their royal ass in Prius or Leaf, while all their friends get chaufered around in Maybachs and Lincolns and then take their Ferrari for a spin.

asteroid mining will have to be developed before even a modestly sized megastructure(modeststructure?) can be attempted. Yes, it is a meme currently. But so was re-usability until it was accomplished.
Of course, the funding problem remains and there's no solution to it unless someone invents some very convincing investor bait. Has no one tried to show the asteroid composition graphs with a gorrilion tons of gold to investors? Surely the potential profit should get their attention?

i have a quest 3. the only reason i dont wear it 24/7 is because of the weight. that shit really is game changing tech, but the weight is insane idk what the companies are thinking. and worse is that its not just a meta issue as all the companies keep making them so heavy.
>>
>>16841391
>a gorrilion tons of gold
Wouldn't be worth that much actually because if you started to flood the market with gold its price would plummet.
What is really potentially worthy is the things you build there, like the habitats themselves.
Initially space tourism could be a thing, with time we could reach the point when we can even create new nations.
It's all very speculative for now of course.

it's cause most of them are wireless, which means big heavy batteries to power everything. Just look at the Bigscreen Beyond vr headset, it's light and sleek but needs a wire and external motion tracking to drive it.
>>
>>16841424
>Wouldn't be worth that much actually because if you started to flood the market with gold its price would plummet.
the point would be to get enough capital from greedy investors to fund the initial jump, not as a proper financing method. The moment you actually tried to bring home space gold, you would receive a very lucrative 9 mike mike retirement offer. In fact, I've been thinking if earth based funds would even be necessary once say, a dozen thousand or so people live in space. At that point it would be reasonable to assume that a new isolated economy could form.
Think about it: on earth, a farmer grows food to feed the worker to perform work which creates value which drives innovation and expansion. Rather than trying to somehow shove space into the mix by coddling wealthy people, why not create a whole new independent system instead? In space, a space farmer grows space food(using recycled human waste and water) to feed the space worker to perform space work... you get the point, trade with earth would obviously be done, but for profit, not survival.
Space tourism is a trap, no matter how "successful" it will keep the money inside the gravity well and could only ever result in more space tourism.

FSD is real. You've seen it down at Austin. We're building the robotaxis. No I was late 20's and she was heading into 40
She was a big health nut, a little kooky and new-age, but to a cute and inspiring degree, not to a creepy degree.
She was in better shape than most women 10 years younger. Even started adding a little muscle tone to her abs and arms while we were together because I inspired her to hit the gym more.
Princess-carrying an older woman and having her go all subby, calling her "good girl" was a thrill.
She gave me a little paperback book on "Sexual Kung-Fu"

In the end though I just caused pain because she wanted it to be a full committed relationship. We stayed in touch after and she found someone more appropriate to her age eventually.

>what do you do at 40?
Well if you're entering 40's then you have to be the male-cougar, the "DILF" I guess.
You can sympathetically imagine how an unsure young woman / girl might feel having direction, while reaping those benefits.
And that age diff probably can more likely lead to something long term anyway.

>Full bloom on the most powerful radar satellite ever built—seen here with centimeter-level clarity. Vantor collected this image of the NISAR synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite after it deployed its giant circular radar antenna reflector in August. Developed jointly by NASA and ISRO, this reflector measures 12 meters in diameter and is the largest of its kind ever deployed in space. NISAR released first images late last month.
>For high-value assets in space, decision makers don't have days to wait for answers to critical questions. They need fast answers. Our WorldView Space non-Earth imaging capability is built for exactly this kind of mission. Here you can see the actual structural state—whether the mesh is properly tensioned, if the deployment geometry matches specifications, and how the spacecraft is oriented relative to its imaging targets. With this image, we also collected spacecraft orientation, velocity data, and deployment confirmation that telemetry alone can't verify. This is the kind of trusted intelligence that delivers total clarity to help you understand what's happening in Earth's orbit.

It's almost all amateur over there. China doesn't really seem to have domestic groups like NSF, so the streams we get are either the rare official webcast or some random guy filming with his phone.

it was in some recent tweet where he said that although falcon 9 will be surpassed by chinese versions, it doesn't matter cause starship is even better than both, or something like that, don't remember the exact words.

He feels that nobody can be taken seriously if they are not a part of one, so he feels uncomfortable admitting that he's just some retard posting nonsense online. He feels much more comfortable faking being part of some illusive production company which doesn't exist.

Three phase increases your RMS voltage by a factor of square-root 3, so three-phase Amerishart voltage would be about 207 V. Just barely enough for a kettle.

>3-phase
That word does not mean what you think it means.
UK uses 240 volts, that's the difference. But it's still not 3-phase at the wall. US uses 240 volts also, it just gets split in half at the breaker box. Only a few appliances get wired for it, in particular laundry dryers.
Kettles are overrated anyhow.

What electrical power standard will they use in space? What voltage and frequency? Or will it just all be DC since everything will be solar. What wall plug will they use? These are the kinds of questions what we should be thinking about.

Surviving Mars relaunched launches today

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3215050/Surviving_Mars_Relaunched/
>>
>>16842722
Any changelog? The original was good for two or three playthroughs at max difficulty.
>>
>>16842725
nta but I'm sure I read that not that much has really changed. Which is a shame as I would have liked to play through some of the other "stories" but I always got bored of the basic gameplay on other playthroughs.
>>
>>16842725
this is it

looks like it was mostly under the hood tweaks and fixes, a few graphical upgrades and some fixes to dlc that was made by another studio.
>>
>>16842727
>>16842729
thanks and RIP. One of my big complaints was not being able to move to a 'open' city plan once the planet was sufficiently terraformed for the domes to come down and it doesn't seem like they're planning to do anything that ambitious.

>>16842729
This shit is better be free for those who already own the game.

The space force should start building rockets whose payloads have the goal of transporting troops from point A to point B of the planet Earth.
Think about this: amphibious Space/Earth assault forces, literally space marines; you launch them from Cape Canaveral, make them achieve orbit and when they are above the target you make them de-orbit and land them on the target.
>>
>>16842730
I remember playing the terraforming dlc, I though you could build outdoor stuff at the end? Or was it just gardens and parks?
>>
>>16842733
it was still locked to the open air "capital" dome floorplan for human habitation, you could build lakes and parks and stuff outside but they only acted to progress terraforming.
