wanted to get your guys opinion on something (trying to help explain motorsports to my mom). What would you consider to be the most important races/events in a given calendar year for the following leagues (no particular order).

F1
>Monaco GP

>???

Indycar
>Indy 500
>??? (Maybe Long Beach GP)

NASCAR:

The only F1 GP that matters for bragging rights is the Monaco GP. That's the only one you see even the drivers consider above the rest. The others are "nicer" because of eg. being Ferrari winning in Italy but the Italian GP in an of itself isn't ultra special.

NASCAR is the Daytona 500, Southern 500, Coke 600

When introducing normies to racing the prestige isn't the most important thing. It's the entertainment value. As in what ewmgst
lse could I be watching.
F1
Drive to Slurp (It's literally made for women.)
Indycar
100 Days to Indy is actually good, Ling Beach is usually top kino
NASCAR
totally random, this year's Bristol spring race was pretty good. So was Atlanta.

Show her season 1 of 100 Days to Indy.

>>140266494
nascar is daytona 500, world 600, southern 500 and rhe brickyard 400 which is back this year, indycar is the 500 and long beach, there isn't really a 3rd crown jewel right now

The Monaco GP and Indy 500 are scheduled the same day so you can't win it in a year any more. Generally, if you win one of each of the triple crown events it counts as a triple crown. Alonso's quest to do the Triple Crown was over a few years. He had already won Monaco in F1 so he was looking for the Indy 500 and the Le Mans. He made one Indy 500 he actually did well on but was bumped the second time around (As Mclaren had basically fucked up everything possible they could fuck up). LeMans he was part of the Toyota squad at the Apex of Toyotawinslol and did that at first time of asking.

But as >>140266696 has said. Only Graham Hill has done it and with how brutal F1 is to keep a seat it's gonna be a while before someone else attempts to do it. Only driver I could see doing a feasible charge at it in the next few years would maybe be Sebastian Vettel since he has two Monaco wins already and he's looking into LMP 1 with Porsche. Indy wouldn't be too far a stretch for him.

>>
>>140267285
100% accurate. They don't have full/empty tanks anymore, they have virtual fuel tanks because of BoP. You have more than 100% of that in your tank but you can't exceed it or you get penalized

Verstappen said he didn't want to be in F1 for too long so I could see him do it even when he's relatively young and I could see him being able to pick up a decent ride in Indy Car and LeMans hypercar class to do it (The Triple Crown only counts for an overall win at LeMans so basically hypercar class or nothing)

Will always be surprised Montoya never did it because he had Monaco and Indy won but by the time he was doing endurance racing he was more interested in journeyman LMP 2 racing instead.,

I would like to observe that IndyCar shills like Marshall Pruett (who IRL boomers will tell you is not enough of a shill) tried to spin fucking up the hybrid introduction with "uhhh but the cars will be really fast with the lighter parts", and with even with the lighter memescreen this weekend the pole was a wopping .2s faster than last year and .7s slower than 2022.

If the tires weren't harder for more weight I wonder if the grip wouldn't be better. But Pruett is really stupidly obvious about protecting his access. Actually the interview he did with Will Power at hybrid testing before they were delayed was really pathetic

>A car has veered off track during a motor race in Sri Lanka killing seven people, local media report.

>They say at least 18 others were hurt in the accident at the Fox Hill Supercross event in the town of Diyatalawa on Sunday.

>Among the dead were four race officials as well as spectators, including an eight-year-old girl, the army says.

>The race is organised by the Sri Lankan military, which has an academy in Diyatalawa, and was its 28th run.

>More than 100,000 spectators were present. Eyewitness videos show people rushing towards the scene in the aftermath. The event was suspended.

>Two of the victims died from their injuries after being taken to the local military hospital. Some of the injured are in a critical condition.

>>
>>140291154
I think it goes something like this, correct me if I'm wrong
>You score separate points on Saturday and (Super)Sunday. Crash out on Friday or Saturday, but you still have up to 7pts for grabs on Super Sunday.
>You only get to keep Saturday's points if you finish the rally on Sunday
>Sunday's last stage, PowerStage has another 5pts for available to the top 5 separately from everything else
Somehow Tänak who consistently got left in the dust since Friday ends up with more points than Evans and Neuville who put up a great competitive show for the whole weekend, being by a nice margin #1 & #2, neck and neck until the penultimate stage where they both made a mistake. 3rd place could potentially earn more points than the fastest and most competitive guy who wins the rally (which is lame and gay).

What's the deal with the points system in WEC? Are people happy with it? To me it seems like they should just treat every stage or maybe day as a mini race where the team with the lowest time gets say, 25 points, second fastest 15, third fastest 10 points, fourth 5 points and so on. Maybe not those values, but you get the idea. Why does this not work for WRC.

What's the downside of a 1 point for every stage win, and some extra for the rally winner? Why over-complicate shit. Everything else just tends to end up with this boring old bullshit of super-safe Sunday cruising, tire saving, etc.

I think just giving points to the winner screws over the other teams. If someone comes in second in every single stage but never wins, they get fewer points than a team that wins 1 stage and DNFs every every other stage. That is an exaggeration, but you understand my meaning.
>>
If I were an indycar backmarker I would consider waiting to see what Dixon does with his pit strategy at each opportunity
>>
>>140297993
in order fo that to work you'd have to be as good as dixon at saving fuel while being fast, which nobody seems capable of
>>
>>140298385
exactly. his pit strategies wouldn't work for lesser drivers.
>>
>>140298385
>work
Work as in 'win the race?' Not likely for a backmarker. I imagine a slower pace and similar mpg could work. I mean it's unlikely you'd have many chances to wait and see what Dixon's engineer thinks anyways. But i.e. if I knew Dixon could put in 34 lap stints on the greens it would tell me a lot about those tires

>>
>>140298797
I mean, idk. it's hard to say. maybe you could improve your position a bit from the intel you get from what Dixon/Gannasi do. but maybe it's a case of, if you are trying to copy them, it's already too late and anything you think you can learn from their strategy will slow you down.
>>
I think it's better to think of your own strategy based on what you know on the strength of your car setup, and the skills of your driver. what Dixon and Ganassi are doing might not work if your team tries it.

Honestly, I don't typically even watch 2 at once. I really just end up not really enjoying either that much. I usually just watch whichever series I like more or maybe the one that will be harder to find a reply of. There are a lot of things I'll watch "if it's on" but I don't follow too closely, the 5 million SOR series, for instance.
For me, its:
1. IMSA
2. WEC/IndyCar
3. NASCAR
4. Various GT series (ADAC, SRO, BARC)
I'd rate Australia V8 Supercars higher, but I can't seem to stay awake for the races, same with WEC. I also like sprint cars and legends, but I know jack shit about them, same with WEC. I also really like hill climbs.
>>
also gotta factor in your pit crew.

What they need to do is the same thing that NASCAR guys need to do on super speedways, plan on a late caution and strats for that. You want to end on sticky fresh tires and light fuel, and be bunched up with the group to get a jump.

Yeah, I REALLY hope they win the IMSA season (I'd like them to win WEC, but, yeah) the best part is that they get the same BOP as the 31.
They still haven't updated the point from this weekend, but how, the fuck, did Whelen get 245 points at Seabring when they ended the race upside-down with 4.5 hours still on the clock?

I'd have to say IndyCar is my #1 priority, followed by #2 Supercars. luckily due to timezones, they don't conflict.
after that, it'll be Super GT/Super Formula/Super Taikyu. may conflict with Supercars, but they don't usually conflict with each other.
after that, any other sports car series. so many. depends what is on at what time. and then rally.

Indy maybe has Pocono or the Milwaukee Mile. It used to be Pikes Peak (the hillclimb). Indycar racing has always centred around the 500 with everything else just being filler, it's the main reason why Indycars has had identity issues and stability issues right back to the 1960s.
>>
>>140280102
The existence of a WEC and an Indycar championship have been too inconsistent to be counted in the same league as F1. Historically the Indy 500 and the LM24 were individual races not tied to any championship, Monaco GP was too until the 1930s. That's why the triple crown is just those three races rather than whatever championship they happen to be tied to.
>>
>>140312566
You need to have the same diff setting on all your cars in the team in the top category.
So if Tanak and Neuville needs different setup, the team either needs to try to find a common ground between them or just straight up go for a setup of the driver they prefer and force the others to use that
IIRC

Gimmie's running the #84 on Sunday at Dover. Amirola and Bayne work for JGR now so even though they are Toyota drivers they probably wouldn't be in the line for Legacy unless there was a deal with JGR (And JGR's deal seems mostly with 23 XI anyway). Heim is Legacy's normal reserve driver which is why he got the spot.

Well, at least 1 of their cars got clobbered at the beginning, but they also changed 98% of the aero/bodywork and changed they tires sizes too, so they just don't have the data on setups or the driver experience. It's kind of sad that they had the old configuration pretty well figured out and Imola probably would have favored that car, but I think they wanted to work on this configuration before le Mans. I really want them to do well and even win le Mans.

PENSKE PENAL FOR CHEATIN'
>INDYCAR has announced penalties for Team Penske, including disqualifications for the No. 2 (driver Josef Newgarden) and No. 3 (Scott McLaughlin) and a 10-point penalty for No. 12 (Will Power) from the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg presented by RP Funding on Sunday, March 10 on the Streets of St. Petersburg
>During the Sunday, April 21 warmup session ahead of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, INDYCAR discovered the team’s possible rules violation.
>An extensive review of data from the race on the Streets of St. Petersburg revealed that Team Penske manipulated the overtake system so that the No. 2, 3 and 12 cars had the ability to use Push to Pass on starts and restarts. According to the INDYCAR rulebook, use of overtake is not available during championship races until the car reaches the alternate start-finish line
>It was determined that the No. 2 and the No. 3 gained a competitive advantage by using Push to Pass on restarts while the No. 12 did not.
>Due to the disqualification penalty of the No 2, the No. 5 entry of Arrow McLaren driven by Pato O’Ward is now credited with the win on the Streets of St. Petersburg.

It's a relatively minor thing but this is why any series that relies on dyno regulated horsepower (which is probably just CSBK these days thank fuck but used to be some halfway relevant ones) is a joke because compared to the Shank air pressure cheat or this p2p cheat, ECU cheating a dyno is baby shit.

Even with the modern, more useful version of putting $100,000 torque sensors in the car for real time monitoring you are open to a version of the tire pressure cheat to send made up power numbers (or as happens more often, the lowest bidder torque sensor shids itself and starts reporting nonsensical power spikes and you get assfucked by race control)

I don't know, I just feel like doing anything but banning non-driven wheel speed sensors and GPS modules connected to the vehicle's operating electronics to reduce how effective you can make traction control is outside of any sanctioning body's ability to actually enforce reliably.

What tipped me off was the little 'winglets' on the edges of the swoops before the rear tires. Pretty obvious AI artifacts.

>On Sunday, IndyCar was experiencing technical difficulties in race control during the first 10 minutes of the 30-minute warmup session, and with their attention turned to those issues, P2P wasn’t activated when the green flag waved.
>While nine of IndyCar’s 10 teams spent those 10 early minutes without the use of P2P, IndyCar and others saw something strange through telemetry where the Team Penske cars — and only the Team Penske cars — had functioning P2P as Penske drivers were racking up seconds of P2P use.
What a very Shindy way for this to happen.

Anyways it actually sounds like the illegal p2p time was being counted at St. Pete and race control just never noticed, so the reason this penalty came out relatively quickly is because they literally just had to open up their live data and actually look for it. Which in the spirit of conspiracy (not that incompetence isn't totally plausible), given people have been bitching about Penske drivers pressing buttons in onboards, you might suggest they intentionally did not bother to do until it got too blatant to overlook.

The super duper conspiracy is someone ratted the boss out by manufacturing a technical issue to expose it, but I think it's funnier to imagine someone in on it fucked it up because of such an inane IT issue.
>>
Anyways it's good to see Penske re-embrace its identity as cheating douchebags this year

I'm kind of surprised anyone is surprised at the obvious issues of a team owner also owning the series.

>>140344545
It's easy to romanticize because there was a time period there where you had Panoz with ALMS, Forsythe and Kalkovhen with CCWS, and even TG3 with the IRL and the most suspicious shit any of them ever did as far as being a team owner was forcing ALMS to allow a shitty dildo car and talk about how great it was by not having to follow any rules and still never win anything.

Mind you technically CCWS' third owner was Paul Gentilozzi who imploded Trans-Am.
>>
>>140344732
CCWS having multiple team owners owning the series is less egregious since you have them balancing each other out, same reason why CART worked fine, this however is a problem because you have one team with no checks and balances running things.

For me, the big takeaway is that Power didn't cheat. IDK why he got a points deduction, other than to peanlize the team for allowing him to have the ability to cheat, even though he didn't use it. What a class act.

>IDK why he got a points deduction

>What a class act.
i think it's more that he's at a point on his career in which he just doesn't really wanna get involved in this kind of stuff, 10 years ago he wouldn't have questioned doing it, that or his team didn't tell him (hopefully it wasn't that his team is so incompetent that they didn't realize they had it)
>>
I guess I should be more upset about the obvious rigging of last year's 500

What part did Firebird play in all this?

So Penske cheated in the series that they own, and then they caught themselves and are punishing themselves?

I'm starting to join #TeamShindy, what a shitshow.
It's not even about Penske cheating and telling nobody, or Penske investigating Penske and punishing Penske. Not detecting when a car is using PTP when it shouldn't be although the data is there and only discovering it by chance six weeks later, wow. never trust automatic (de-)activation-systems.
Also Conor Daly going on record saying he's pushing it during restarts all the time explains a lot.
