No Garage 56 entry this year as no one entered. The rules are that you can only run a Garage 56 prototype once so NASCAR/Hendrick can't run the Camaro again. There's some fuckery where teams enter some improved cars like how the ZEOD RC in 2014 was essentially an improved Deltawing with a hybrid electric system. But generally, it's a once-off entry.

Why is Chip Ganassi Racing billed as Cadillac Racing in WEC? That skid mark redditor Pruett is speculating that Andretti might run Cadillacs next year to strengthen their ties for an F1 partnership but also Wayne Taylor Racing might and also that Myer Shank might get at least one car back. So, basically, 200 words that say nothing. What a fat idiot, any single one of us could have done what he has and more if our dad was a successful IndyCar driver.

TLDR: I'm going to write a racing movie script, what memes do you want included?

Long story: Since the job market for coders still sucks, and my side project/startup idea isn't getting any traction.. I need to find something else to do. I have enough cash saved that I can neet for several years and don't need to get a wagie job to survive. So... I've decided to try screenwriting, and the first idea I have is a racing movie. I don't want to give the plot away, but it's going to be an action/thriller kind of thing that involves racing (it won't be a traditional "sports movie"). What are some good motor/sp/ort memes you want me to include?

Road America takes the whole "national park of speed" thing kinda seriously, a huge portion of the area is full on wilderness, it's like going hiking and there's happens to be a racetrack running through it. It's a big part of the appeal and I kinda like seeing having to see the whole track instead of watching TV.

Road Atlanta is similar, but it's much smaller of course. I really like having the TV at the 10a, 10b complex since that's kind of a big amphitheater anyway. It is an amazing viewing spot because it is at the end of the longest straightaway and is pretty much the best passing zone and I can see the reply of the passes and crashes that happen elsewhere on the track. That being said, Mt favorite spot is and the place I camp is the woods between turns 4 and 5. The big TV across from Spectator Hill, at turn 5 is nice, too.

Him and Chase both had huge runs. Truex had to lift after he got into the wall, but Chase side drafted him as well. I dunno if Truex gets there with Chase beside him, but definitely if not. Phenomenal finish tho, and the Truex onboard is the best angle of the finish.

But I'm glad I can actually enjoy the mile and halfs after all these years, and I hope the schedule will properly reflect that the car purpose-built to fix what was wrong with races on these tracks gets to see them more often.

Buescher will never call out the golden boy, and it was fair game, but the 17 wins if Larson doesn't hang 2 lefts into his door. Larson was pretty close to sending Buescher wide open into the grass where he likely barrel rolls 10+ times. I feel like Chris has some room to be mad here. Good racing but that's only cuz Chris hung onto it.
>>
>>140661669
Phrased differently, if Ross or some nobody had done to Buescher what Larson did it'd have been dirty. And Bowyer and the Fox booth (sans Harv) woulda implied an asterisk. But when Larson does it it's good hard racing. No chance in hell someone like Gragson could hang two lefts into someone's door for a win and not have his driving questioned. When Larson tries to send someone airborne through the infield it's just good hard racin' boys! Chris was about 1 foot from a potential serious injury last night. They're wide open at the at point on the track. It'd have been ugly.

>What kind of racing?
Unfortunately....... the concept depends on there being races in multiple countries, so it only makes sense with Formula 1. I guess WEC or WRC could also work, but that would be a real stretch in terms of plausibility since they aren't nearly as popular. MotoGP might work, but I don't really watch that and don't know nearly enough about it. I didn't want to ask /f1/ ideas because they're all fags and they have shit memes.
Also, to be clear: This movie will never get made. I doubt I'll ever finish the first draft. But who knows... it's fun to think about.

Stop crying about Larson being "dirty." It is not and has never been considered dirty to bang doors coming to the finish. Chris squeezed him up and made contact with him first, it’s fair game after that.
>>
>>140662015
banging doors is one thing, seriously watch the replay. look how close Chris was to the infield. I'll link it. they weren't just banging doors on the track, Larson ran him dangerously close to the infield. it's fine CUZ it worked, but cmon man. If Chris doesn't gather it in (and stay in it), this is an ugly finish.

If Harrison Burton were driving the 17 he'd have likely have flown outside of the track and be dead now. Let us thank god that Harrison Burton isn't good enough to race for wins.
>>
>>140662104
Come on man. Larson did nothing wrong there. He went up after that second door hit and gave Buescher room. The entire field would race that way to the line if they were in position to win. I think we can agree on that.
>>
>>140662149
Can I get a QRD on this? I've been so busy with work I can barely even keep up with /turnleft/ news. So Penske got caught using push to pass when they shouldn't...how is that not the most regulated and observed data point in Indy? Like the idea that someone could cheat this seems so absurd. If it were in NASCAR EVERYONE would have done this.
>>
>>140662186
All I'm saying is if this ISN'T Larson, it's a questionable move. It nearly sent Buescher flipping through the infield.
>>
>>140662196
>Indycar race control has computer issue that prevents anyone from using push to pass for a period of time during a race
>Anyone that is, except for two of the Penske cars who can somehow use it normally
>Investigation reveals shenanigans are afoot
>Whole bunch of whining occurs, Penske team officials claim it's an unfortunate intersection of engineers not having the correct software in the car and drivers just pressing the 'go faster' button out of habit regardless of whether or not they're functional.

Whole thing is /probably/ blown out of proportion. Surely if Penske were previously cheating with p2p on starts then race control would've noticed that the penske cars were using it well before anyone else since that's exactly how they got caught to begin with.

All the p2p data is available and obvious, Hinchcliffe guessed that race control probably doesn't look at it most of the time when it's disabled on restarts, so they didn't notice that Newgarden and Mclaughlin each used it on restarts at St Pete (Mclaughlin only once). Then six weeks later at the warm-up session for Long Beach where the p2p is usually enabled for the only time before the race, race control had other tech difficulties that forced them to disable p2p, which is then when they saw the Penske cars still using it anyways, and it was due to a low-level setup file change that originates from the hybrid testing. They also found that Power had it too, but did not attempt to use p2p illegally, so he only got a 10 pts deduction while the other two were disqualified. Then Newgarden put his foot in his mouth and cried and claimed that his team actually thought it was a rule change.
My issue with the whole stupidity is that they wouldn't risk something so obvious on a team-wide basis and then in Power's case, not even use it. Plus I don't even think it helps much as legal advantages they have like dampers. So I don't want to damage control for Penske but I would bet it started as a happy accident and then a few people in the team thought they could get away with it.

Link is an interview with President of Road America.

tldr: a bunch of small improvements happened to around the track, no more jumbotrons though. The Cup series is welcome back anytime, Xfinity couldn't make it because of scheduling conflicts due to the Olympics. IMSA is as big at Road America as Indycar now. He doesn't think IMSA will increase the length of the race at Road America any time soon, but they're ready for them because of the improvements they made.

He also specifically mentioned the lights several times, which I posted about here (and took pics in blizzard(.

IMSA at Road America should be 6 hours minimum. same as Watkins Glen gets. I'd prefer 12 or 24 but I think RA deserves at least 6.
>>
>>140663735
As I understood it, the original owner had passed away some years ago, and his kids inherited it. I believe they owned it for a while and hadn't done much with it, and then sold it off. When I went as kid, there wasn't much around the track, and those improvements were built almost entirely in the last ten years or so.

Now that I looked it up, Road America is owned by Road America, Inc, who is in turn own by a Spanish insurance group.
>>
>>140663782
I don't disagree, if any tack on their schedule deserves it (other than Daytona and Sebring), it's Road America. We've ended up derailing like, 3 or 4 generals, almost consecutively, when one of us starts going on about it. I imagine it looks like lunacy but it really is that good of a time.

$500 nachos at Miami, RA is BYOB. Can't say it enough.
>>
>>140663894
informing Anons about the benefits of attending a race at Road America is not derailing, Anon. everyone should go at least once. I met some dudes from New Zealand there a few years ago. Dixon fans naturally, that was before McLaughlin entered IndyCar.
>>
>>140663943
Sometimes I feel like a Jehovah's Witness or a Mormon missionary when it comes to RA. I don't see anons in Florida or California going on about Daytona or Laguna Scea or about Wtakin's Glen as much as we do.

I mean, maybe those tracks suck (I've never been), but the tracks I've been to out of state just don't compare.
>>
>>140664046

The problem is the current car package is shit for road racing. Last gen wasn't a problem because the package was great for road course racing, plate tracks and short tracks. The problem in that generation is that the package was dogshit for cookie cutter 1.5 mile tracks when that was the majority of the schedule. This generation it's totally reversed. The package is great for cookie cutters (Even Texas Motor Speedway wasn't as offensive like it used to be) and bad for everything else.

gt world challenge (america/eu/asia/australia) has some longer endurance races in their schedules, but usually 3h (plus their sprint races)
24H series (despite not every race being 24h long)

NLS (formerly VLN) which is exclusively on burgerking, also just shorter ones

This is what I think happened. The engineers made some kind of mistake, 2 of the drivers discovered it and Newgarden convinced himself that it was legal. Thats just bs. You are sucking up the doomer psyop of the manufacturers. In the last few years a lot of well selling cars got canned because said manufacturer is betting on electric shit and they need to retool the manufacturing for those and slim down the supply chain so shareholders can bring home even more millions.
The fiesta sales were only seem for example because ford phased out of the markets year by year, but ford went: We want to electrify our rango so we are dropping some models, but hey kids it's not selling anyways 'wink-wink' (prime BS as it was still the 5th or 6th best selling car when ford already crippled the fiesta offerings)
And also they said that they are not making enough money on fiestas (they were still highly profitable just not enough to make the shareholders happy).
Of course the fiesta is not your 600BHP track car (although it was a base for a 400BHP WRC), this is just shows that the manufacturers many times trying to force their will on the market with slimming down your available choices and not actually trying to satisfy consumer needs.
Also cars which got canned in the last few years:
Merc CLS, Merc C, S and E class coupes and convertibles, Audi TT and R8 (okay the latter was a halo model), Jaguar XJ and F Type (fucking jaguar became a SUV only manufacturer), VW canning the saloon passat, Ford canning the Mondeo/Fusion and the Fiesta, and the list goes on...

There is a lot of truth to what you say, but in America at least, the CAFE laws .ake it very difficult to make medium and small size cars because the "footprint" (LxW) is a determining factor. The bigger the footprint, the lower MPG it is allowed. That's why we have so many fucking huge trucks and SUVs. If you want a big comfortable vehicle with a big V8 you can get a Challenger (RIP soon), or a Cadillac V Series R. Otherwise it's a Navigator, Escalade or pickup. The FWD cuckovers are the balance between foot print and power/comfort. Also, car culture is on the ropes, most people see their car like a personal accessory, not a reason to live, like me.

On the electric vehicle meme, I would like to note that this is also regulator driven. They simply set unachievable emissions requirements, with a convenient loophole where if your gas-burning cars can't meet those requirements you can offset them by producing a certain number of electric vehicles. The tech for electrics isn't there yet, we've tapped out the early adopters here but the infrastructure and cost have not gotten to the point where anyone but those early adopters wants an electric, so there's not much market demand. The government's solution is to try and manufacture demand by forcing auto companies to electrify their fleets.

At the end of the day, the manufacturers don't care, because they know the emissions targets are unreachable, and as the electric market continues to stall, they can just demand (and get) either reductions in emissions standards which won't change anything in the kinds of cars produced, or they'll get subsidized demand for their electrics, which also makes them happy. Either way, the only people who have the power to change it know they depend on the government to survive, so they won't bite the hand that feeds.
>>
>>140679311
I will note that Ford NA directly replaced the Fiesta with the taller version of it the Ecosport that didn't need to get as good of gas mileage but sold like canned poo compared to the Fiesta

>>
>>140699306
Nah, nothing wrong with a front engine sports car. Mercedes, BMW, Lexus and Aston have been doing fine with them. GM just wanted to capture the Porsche faggot market segment and they did it. A lot of C8 owners are first time Corvette owners and they are a noticeably different demographic than the traditional boomers. I don't really fit in with either, but given the choice, I'll take the latter every time.

The Caymen is pretty nice, but the price on C5 and C6 Corvettes in the US is about half as much. The C8 is basically impossible to get for under $100,000 and they said it would start at $70,000 before initial release. Then all the rich midengine fags went crazy pre-ordering causing lead times to go through the roof and adding 30k to the price of any cars that are on the lot.

if Honda takes the Acura LMDh back to Cheatin'-Shank, idk who to root for in IMSA GTP.
>WTR-Andretti going to Cadillac
can't root for GM after what they've done to the American auto industry, AND the Australian auto industry.
>Penske-Porsche
can't root for them cheatin' Penskes.
>privateer Porsche teams
sus because Porsche have no problem with "creative interpretations of the rules", going back decades.
>BMW
ugly and also sus because BMW are no stranger to "creative interpretations of the rules".
>Lamborghini
ugly and not serious about racing, historically, and hiring Grosjean is a recipe for disaster.
so that leaves me with potentially Heart of Racing Aston Martin.
assuming the Valkyrie comes to fruition and enters IMSA, I might have to go with them.

Oh, it 100% would be. They want to build their own car instead of running a quasi spec racer built by someone else. I admire that. It's why I liked Glickenhaus and Vanwall and it's why I like Isotta Fraschinin. I don't expect them to win, but I appreciate what they do.

Manufacturers will maybe send their chassis on an exhibition lap if they're feeling generous but those are always chassis that won specific events with all the original parts.

That is pretty bad, but it's only 2x what basic Jordan's cost when considering what retards will pay for shoes (I just buy Pumas <$50 at Ross) That color scheme is pretty bad, too.

>The tweaks count as an official “out-of-cycle” homologation extension (erratum), which were signed off ahead of this weekend following a rapid turnaround by the FIA. The paperwork associated with these tweaks was submitted last Friday by Ford, allowing it to receive the green light before the WEC cars hit the track yesterday in Spa.
>“We saw that the issue would stem from the crease at the back end of the boot. We have improved its stiffness to prevent the folding from happening. In competition, we were getting air pushing up from underneath and it was causing that to break the bonds on the stiffening elements that were in place to stop it from folding.
