Bizarre article. Football is an emotional game, every football fan overcelebrates their team winning and has a meltdown when their team loses. Then usually you get on with your life for the rest of the week until the next match, but of course you're not going to see that if you're only looking at online fan forums and Youtube channels which are specifically made to discuss football and nothing else.

It's no different to any other fanbase. Liverpool were running away with the league last season and you could still see online posts saying Van Dijk and Salah were finished or that Konate was dogshit. Then you have a club like Real Madrid, who are objectively the most successful football club in history, and their fans still think there are conspiracies against their team.

Plus the whole "I'm an X fan, but I'm definitely not like all those other X fans" is an embarrassing position to take in general. It's just pure clout chasing. Most people who aren't idiots recognise that you don't tar entire groups with the same brush.
>>
>>153253887
>Fans of other clubs looked on with derision as Arsenal appropriated tifos (their reputation has barely recovered from the shame of the little cannon unveiled for the Champions League semi-final against Paris St-Germain last season), the brass band and the anthem North London Forever, which was adopted way back in the mists of time in, er, 2022. The “Ashburton Ultras” try to bring a European flavour to the Emirates. It feels inauthentic because it is. The sad thing is that Arsenal has a history of its own, but acts as if it wants somebody else’s.
lmao brutal but accurate
>>
>>153254060

Even if we accept that Arsenal have the worst fanbase in football, context is just as important as content when it comes to media literacy. Why do you think this article was released now? Arsenal have had a good weekend in terms of results, it looks like they're champions elect and they are in a strong position for the other 3 competitions too. Some football fans of other clubs are struggling to come to terms with the fact that Arsenal will win the league, I would assume a lot of these are Man U fans who are coming to the realisation that soon they will be the new big club with an embarrassing title drought that everyone laughs at. Many of these fans would have been those that jumped on the bandwagon during the Fergie/Wenger days, so Arsenal in particular are a source of their hatred (over Man U's traditional rivals like Liverpool, City or Leeds).

And articles like this are just profiting off traffic from people who like to spend their free time seething about Arsenal, not really any different from the reactionary youtube content they are trying to mock. You'd expect this content from a random fan rambling online, but not an established media outlet like the Telegraph. Ultimately you have to accept that this is the state of modern "journalism", but it's still sad.
>>
Insipid pet peeve of mine is when people use the term “big” or “small” to describe a club specifically when arguing about which club is “bigger”. Such an abstract descriptor are you talking about achievements or popularity or arbitrarily ascribing a weighed value to both of the former in an attempt to mathematize statements. Like you’re an adult find more accurate words to explain what you’re thinking. It always reminds me of that creepy or wet gym copypasta in how nonsensical those adjectives are.
