He doesn't play for the Padres, but one of their minor-league affiliates (AA/AAA). Most amateur players don't have the luxury of choosing the team they want to play for on their rookie contract. Their primary motivation is getting to the major leagues, where the pay is a magnitude greater than what they're getting in the minors.

Are amateur leagues and minor leagues the same thing?>B) being selected in the international draft and and agreeing to a signing bonusSo it's like A, but instead of being selected to play for a MLB team, you get selected for a US baseball national team?>C) agreeing to terms as an undrafted playerSo your own terms, with their ups and downs. Are there any benefits to doing this? So, speaking of Sanabria, he plays on a team related to the Padres, called affiliates here, and if he does well, he might (not will?) get upped to the Padres main team.

>>153743156The best domestic baseball players will play year round on a combination of travel and school teams. These travel clubs are prohibitively expensive so there's definitely a financial filter but the quality of opposition tends to be really good and get players noticed by MLB/college scouts. Players can be drafted as HS graduates or after completing one year of junior college or after their junior year of university (or 21 years of age). Amateur and Minor League Baseball (MiLB) are used interchangeably, but there are also independent professional leagues that aren't associated with Major League Baseball (MLB) at all. There's two drafts, one for US, US territories, and Canada ("The MLB Draft") and an international draft for players from other nations. So a player from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, etc., would enter an MLB through this draft as an amateur (there are agreements in place between different international professional leagues for how MLB handles compensation for international free agents, but that is a separate mechanism).Generally undrafted players are players who did not stand out during high school or college and have to settle for the worst signing terms, but it's generally in their benefit to do so from a baseball career. However, an undrafted high schooler would have the option of going to junior college or university to continue to work on improving their performance and get selected in a future draft (the downside is they could get injured and completely destroy their draft value). There's no real benefit here, but for some players it's their only path toward affiliated ball.Sanabria could get called up to the Padres team depending on the team's needs, but it's unlikely for anything more than a short stint. He's what's generally referred to as "organizational filler", i.e., warm bodies.

There appears to be an issue within the Boston Clubhouse environment that adversely affects the performance of its players when they are present. This phenomenon results in them exhibiting exceptional performance when away from the clubhouse but displaying subpar abilities while within it. I believe this to be indicative of a detrimental influence within the clubhouse, which could be characterized as a form of organizational dysfunction.Specifically, while Yoshida demonstrates commendable performance with his Japanese team, his performance in Boston is notably poor.

>>153743670Olympic baseball hardly got off the ground in the first place since the professional season would be in full swing. The only players available were raw prospects or old washouts. MLB might possibly pause the season for the 2028 games but good luck convincing the owners. International tournaments are like pulling teeth for them since they don't want their players getting hurt or to lose revenue.
>>153743390I don't think it does, but the people that think MLB needs a salary cap to increase parity, but the reality is MLB has more parity than any other american sports league. >NOOOOOOO MLB isn't fair to my poverty team!gape yourself gaylords
>>153744079Players' contracts are guaranteed so they're paid even if they're hurt and can't play. Teams need insurance on those contracts if that happens. But the insurance companies can refuse coverage if they think a player is too high risk for getting hurt if they're off doing an extracurricular like a tournament. If the player can't get insured, his team won't let him play. Puerto Rico in particular has had its lineup decimated for this year's WBC by a slew of insurance denials and the island was very unhappy about it.

The draw for Senbatsu (a.k.a. Spring Koshien) was done a few hours ago. Okinawa Shogaku will play fallen giants Teikyo in the opening game. The Second and third nights are pretty good imo. Yokohama plays Kamimura Gakuen followed by Toyodai Himeji playing Hanamaki Higashi (a.k.a. Ohtani's (and Yusei Kikuchi's) alma mater) in the night cap. The other two games on opening are kinda good that have the potential of being kino but there are clear favorites in both. Anan Hikari faces perennial power Chukyo of Nagoya in the second game and an always solid Kosei squad plays 1976 champs Sotoku from Hiroshima in the finale. Osaka Toin got their customary #32 and last slot and will play a scrappy Kumamoto Kogyo squad in the final game of the first round. Interestingly, if they advance, they'll probably play Mieko in the second round lel. Toinwinslol and Mieko played a controversial title game at the 2014 Summer Koshien... no prizes on guessing right on who was the winner of that one. They've got a definitely easy but sneaky tough draw up to a potential quarterfinal. The top half of their bracket is fire. Basically any school on the quarter of the bracket could face >toinwinslol in a potential semifinal. The tournament begins two weeks from tonight.

>>153744586Basketball and football were born and raised in colleges. They've been closely linked to the institution of higher education since Day 1 to the point where you could argue that college level is the "pure" form of each. Baseball never had that kind of connection in the first place and professionalized very early on. In fact, the National League is the oldest continuous professional league of any kind in the world, older than the English Football League.
>>153744628and I remember watching Jay Bilas play at Duke regularly and used to be a cbb junkie. you might know x's and o's and how specific rule changes may have improved the game over recent years, but it doesn't compare to eras when you could basically identify with all the rosters in a conference because of the continuity.
>>153744646i can't go back in time
I think i have some Czech ancestry so I'll be rooting for them, but it looks like they suck.

It must be such an intense feeling to go from playing in your countries small baseball league to being in the god damn tokyo dome while it's being broadcast internationally. these guys might not be major leaguers, but they're surprisingly well composed.

>>153744610>>153744619>>153744708Thanks for the answers. I think baseball should have more presence in high school and colleges. How could it be if you could have more people interested in the sport early on? That's kind of what people do with soccer anyway. The talent pool widens, and the sport gets more and more popular with each year.>Basketball and football were born and raised in colleges. They've been closely linked to the institution of higher education since Day 1 to the point where you could argue that college level is the "pure" form of each. That is really interesting. Do you know if there's a book or anything based on the subject? It's really interesting, how sports in the US have this kind of history dating back to the 19th century.
