I have unironically spent some time trying to think of a way we could remove refs from sports (without shit like AI), and it's pretty much impossible to not have something that will be massively biased.

Instead, I think we should lessen the impact referees have in the game by giving teams and players more ways to contest their decisions.

For example, the Hockey brawl thing, that could be used to challenge the referees decision.

> teams captain declares challenge
> each captain chooses a brawler
> brawlers beat the shit out of each other for a few seconds
> whoever wins picks the outcome (either agrees or nullifies the ref's decision)
Of course it doesn't really need to be fighting, could just be a mini game like a 1v1 ou algo

I referee three sports: soccer (football), lacrosse and water polo. I just laugh when people criticize referees because God knows none of you will ever do it.

The rules are what make the sport. Without referees, there are no rules, and without the rules, it's no longer a sport.

Yeah, I think that "The site is no longer down for maintenance" means they're just running it real slow while they do things. Like the Subway when they do work on a line but don't shut it down and instead just run it every 15 minutes and have it go real slow.
