How good does a player have to be for you to feel like it's justified if their primary team retires their number? Like obviously you can't retire every good player's number when their career is done, you'd run out of numbers pretty quickly. But to some degree, I feel like there has to be some criteria they'd check off to say it's justified and nobody would really be against it if they did.
